Lead the floor at one of the North West's leading packaging businesses
For over 40 years, Global has been the name behind the packaging that keeps some of Britain's best-known brands moving — from independent retailers and product manufacturers to major supermarkets and the NHS. We design, source, stock and deliver from our Preston site (Bamber Bridge), supplying customers nationwide on a next-day service.
We're now looking for an experienced, genuinely hands-on Warehouse Manager to take the reins of one of our two warehouse departments and keep it running like clockwork.
The role
This is a role for someone who leads from the front. Our Preston operation is a single site made up of two distinct warehouse departments, and this role runs the smaller of the two. You'll take day-to-day ownership of your department and its close-knit team of four, working alongside the larger department and its team of nine. It's a manageable, tight-knit group to lead, you'll get stuck into every part of it, because here the best managers roll their sleeves up alongside their team.
You won't be doing it alone. You'll have the full backing of an experienced senior Warehouse and Transport Director and, importantly, one who leads the same way you will. He's a hands-on operator who spends the majority of his time in the warehouse environment, so you'll have genuine, on-the-floor support and expertise close by, while keeping the autonomy to run your department your way.
What you'll be doing
- Managing the daily running of your department — goods in, put-away, picking, packing and dispatch
- Leading, motivating and developing your team of four, setting the standard on the floor
- Keeping stock accurate and the operation flowing in a fast-paced environment
- Driving health & safety, housekeeping and best-practice standards every day
- Working closely with the Warehouse and Transport Director to hit service and delivery targets
- Getting hands-on wherever you're needed — no job is beneath a good manager
What we're looking for
- A valid forklift truck licence — this is essential and applications cannot be considered without it
- Proven experience managing a warehouse or a warehouse team
- A hands-on leader who is comfortable being on the floor, not just behind a desk
- Calm, organised and able to keep momentum when things are busy
- Strong people-management skills, you get the best out of a small team
- Good working knowledge of stock control, H&S and warehouse systems
- A reliable, roll-your-sleeves-up attitude and pride in a well-run operation
Experience in packaging, distribution or fast-moving stock environments is a plus.
What we offer
- A competitive salary that reflects your experience
- Sociable, family-friendly hours — Monday to Friday, 8:00am–5:30pm, with your weekends your own
- The support of an experienced senior director and a stable, well-established business
- A genuine chance to shape how the warehouse runs and make the role your own
- A long-standing, respected company with over 40 years behind it and ambition ahead of it
Where we are
You'll find us at Walton Summit, Preston (PR5 8AS) — superbly located just off Junction 9 of the M61 and only one minute from Junction 29 of the M6. It's an easy commute from Preston, Chorley, Bolton, Blackburn and across the North West, with free on-site parking.
