Role Summary
To take ownership of the commercial management of assigned civil engineering projects or work packages – ensuring robust cost control, valuations, change management, subcontract administration, forecasting and contract compliance – to maximise profitability and cashflow while maintaining strong client and supply-chain relationships.
- Administer main contracts and subcontracts (including NEC3/NEC4, JCT and bespoke forms), ensuring compliance with contractual processes, notices, payment provisions and change control.
- Manage commercial governance by maintaining key registers, supporting procurement compliance and ensuring audit readiness.
- Oversee project cost control, including cost coding, accruals, commitments, forecasting and monthly CVR reporting, identifying risks and opportunities.
- Prepare and submit applications for payment, manage valuations, cashflow forecasts and ensure contractual payment notices are issued and received.
- Lead the identification, pricing and negotiation of compensation events, variations and other contractual entitlements, supporting claims where required.
- Procure and manage subcontract packages, including tendering, negotiation, appointment and ongoing commercial performance.
- Maintain accurate commercial records, including measurements, site records, dayworks, delivery documentation and as-built information.
- Provide commercial advice to project teams, challenge inefficiencies and support the development of Trainee and Assistant Quantity Surveyors.
Qualifications/ Experience
Essential
- Degree, HNC or HND in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management (or equivalent experience).
- CSCS card (relevant level).
- NEC contract training (NEC4 ECC recommended) including working knowledge of NEC3 / NEC4 mechanisms, including compensation events and payment processes.
- Proven QS experience in civil engineering (e.g. highways, drainage, earthworks, utilities, structures, surfacing).
- Strong understanding of cost management, forecasting, valuation and change control.
- Strong negotiation and communication skills, able to manage client and subcontractor relationships.
- High level of competence with Excel and commercial reporting.
Desired
- Experience on frameworks and / or term maintenance contracts.
- Familiarity with estimating and bid-to-build handover processes.

Salary dependent on Experience
