Jesmond Dene House are seeking a passionate and enthusiastic part time Pastry Commis Chef to join our pastry kitchen team, mainly on weekends. This is an exciting opportunity for a junior, newly qualified chef looking to build on their experience and develop their skills and career within a professional pastry kitchen cooking food to 2 rosette standard.
Working alongside our experienced Pastry team, you will gain valuable hands-on experience across a range of pastry, baking, desserts, and afternoon tea, while contributing to the high standards and reputation of Jesmond Dene House.
The ideal candidate will:
- Have a genuine passion for pastry, desserts, baking, and developing new culinary skills
- Be enthusiastic, eager to learn, and willing to take direction from more experienced members of the pastry team
- Have a keen eye for detail and take pride in producing food to a consistently high standard
- Be organised, reliable, and able to work effectively in a busy kitchen environment
- Have a positive attitude and be a supportive team player
- Be keen to learn about different pastry techniques, ingredients, preparation methods, and presentation
- Have a good understanding of Food Hygiene and Health & Safety standards
- Hold a relevant culinary qualification, or be undertaking one, with a desire to specialise and further develop a career in pastry
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the pastry team with the preparation and production of desserts, pastries, breads, cakes, and afternoon tea items
- Follow recipes and preparation methods accurately to ensure consistency and quality
- Assist with the preparation, baking, finishing, and presentation of pastry items
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness, organisation, and food hygiene throughout the pastry kitchen
- Ensure all ingredients and equipment are prepared and ready for service
- Work efficiently as part of the kitchen team during busy service periods
- Assist with stock rotation, storage, preparation, and waste reduction
- Check the quality and freshness of ingredients and report any issues to senior members of the team
- Learn and develop new pastry techniques under the guidance of experienced chefs
- Follow all company Health & Safety and Food Hygiene procedures
- Support the wider kitchen team when required
