Wellington School is seeking a caring, organised and approachable Sunday Matron to join our Boarding Pastoral team.
This is a rewarding opportunity to play an important role in the lives of our boarding pupils, helping to create a safe, welcoming and supportive environment where young people feel valued, cared for and able to thrive.
Working alongside the Head of Boarding, Housemaster and Houseparent, you will be a reassuring and consistent presence within one of our Boarding Houses. Whether providing pastoral support, helping pupils who are unwell, overseeing the smooth running of the House or simply being there to listen, you will make a genuine difference to pupils' boarding experience every Sunday during term time.
No two days are the same, making this an ideal role for someone who enjoys variety, values teamwork and is passionate about supporting young people.
About the role
This is a part-time, term-time only position working Sundays 10am - 6pm, 30 weeks per year
You will:
- Provide pastoral care and support to boarding pupils throughout the day.
- Create a warm, welcoming and inclusive House environment for pupils, families and visitors.
- Promote the values, routines and ethos of the Boarding House while encouraging positive behaviour and mutual respect.
- Support pupils who are unwell, administer first aid and medication in accordance with School procedures, and accompany pupils to occasional appointments where required.
- Assist with the smooth day-to-day running of the House, including sign in/out procedures, pocket money requests and responding to parental enquiries.
- Organise small House activities and celebrations that help foster a caring and enjoyable boarding community.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and presentation within the House, reporting maintenance issues where necessary.
- Keep accurate pastoral, safeguarding and welfare records using School systems, ensuring compliance with School policies and procedures.
- Carry out routine health and safety checks and contribute to safeguarding and pupil welfare at all times.
- Support pupils with arrivals and departures at the beginning and end of term when required.
You'll bring:
- A genuine passion for working with young people from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with pupils, parents and colleagues.
- A calm, caring and approachable manner, with sound judgement and discretion.
- A flexible, organised and proactive approach, with a willingness to adapt as priorities change.
- The confidence to work independently as well as collaboratively within a wider Boarding team.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, together with the ability to use school databases and online systems.
- The ability to meet the physical requirements of the role, including regular movement around the School campus.
- Previous experience as a Matron or within a boarding environment is desirable but not essential, as full training, including First Aid training, will be provided.
