Redland Church, Bristol
Part-time: 24 hours per week | Fixed-term maternity cover
Salary: £16,800–£19,200 per annum (FTE £28,000–£32,000), depending on experience
Redland Church is looking for a passionate and enthusiastic Kids & Families Lead to join our Emerging Generations team on a fixed-term maternity cover basis.
We have a long-standing commitment to investing in children, young people and families, and we are excited about seeing children grow as apprentices of Jesus and develop their own vibrant relationship with God.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who loves working with children and families, has a passion for Christian ministry, and wants to help shape and develop a thriving children’s ministry. We are open to applicants who may not be able to undertake every aspect of the role and are happy to explore how the role could be tailored around the right person.
About the role
You will oversee and develop our children’s ministry for ages 0–11, working closely with our Emerging Generations – Youth Lead, wider staff team and a committed group of volunteers.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading and developing our Sunday children’s groups and midweek activities.
- Encouraging children to grow in their relationship with Jesus and supporting them as they develop as disciples.
- Recruiting, training, equipping and empowering volunteers and ministry leaders.
- Building positive relationships with children, parents and families.
- Helping create engaging, dynamic and fun environments where biblical truths can be explored.
- Supporting family discipleship and working collaboratively across the church.
- Developing our existing children’s ministry while maintaining its vision and values.
- Supporting activities including our weekly toddler group, monthly after-school club and special events.
- Working with local schools, including opportunities to participate in school assemblies.
- Ensuring a strong safeguarding culture and overseeing DBS requirements.
- Communicating effectively with parents and supporting our volunteer teams.
- Working collaboratively with the wider church team and contributing to staff meetings, retreats and events.
- Supporting a smooth transition and handover at the end of the maternity cover.
About you
We are looking for someone who:
- Has a passionate and active personal relationship with Jesus.
- Has experience of working with children and helping them grow in faith.
- Has leadership experience or clear potential to lead and develop others.
- Is passionate about children’s ministry and creating spaces where children can encounter Jesus.
- Is confident building meaningful relationships with children, parents and people of all ages.
- Is creative, energetic and able to communicate biblical truths in an engaging way.
- Is organised, self-motivated and able to manage their workload independently.
- Is comfortable working collaboratively as part of a team.
- Is able to recruit, develop and empower volunteers rather than trying to do everything themselves.
- Has good communication, organisational and basic IT skills.
Training or qualifications in children’s/youth work, theology or a related area would be beneficial, although significant relevant experience will also be considered.
This role has an Occupational Requirement to be a Christian, as permitted under Schedule 9, Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010. The successful candidate will be expected to become an active member of Redland Church.
