Hoots Fringe operate multiple venues and bars across Edinburgh during the Fringe, presenting hundreds of performances to thousands of audience members.
The Role
The Venue Technician is responsible for maintaining the technical operation of the venue and ensuring all equipment, systems and performance spaces remain fully operational throughout the festival. This role focuses on venue infrastructure and equipment reliability rather than operating performances.
Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Infrastructure
- Carry out daily technical checks of venue equipment.
- Ensure sound systems, lighting systems and projectors are functioning correctly.
- Monitor power supplies and distribution equipment.
- Troubleshoot technical faults and equipment failures.
- Coordinate repairs and equipment replacements where required.
Venue Readiness
- Ensure performance spaces are technically ready before opening.
- Conduct pre-opening inspections.
- Test microphones, playback systems and venue equipment.
- Monitor equipment condition throughout the day.
Artist Support
- Provide basic technical inductions for visiting companies.
- Assist performers in connecting approved devices to venue systems.
- Support technical queries relating to venue infrastructure.
Health & Safety
- Monitor cable management and trip hazards.
- Conduct safety checks on electrical equipment.
- Support emergency procedures where required.
What This Role Does NOT Include
- Operating performances.
- Running lighting cues during shows.
- Running sound cues during shows.
- Stage management.
- Programming lighting for individual productions.
- Mixing live performances.
Success In This Role Looks Like
- Equipment works reliably throughout the festival.
- Technical issues are resolved quickly.
- Shows start on time because venues are ready.
- Venue downtime is minimised.
Pay: £12.71 per hour
