Job Title – Back of House (BOH) Team Member
Department – Operations – Kitchen / Back of House
Location – Store-based (SKVP Outlet)
Reporting To – Section Assistant / Commis Chef / Restaurant Manager
Role Purpose
To support the smooth running of kitchen operations by preparing food to SKVP standards, maintaining food safety and hygiene compliance, supporting stock and cleaning processes, and ensuring speed and consistency during service.
Key Responsibilities
1) Food Preparation & Service Support
- Prepare and assemble food items in line with SKVP recipes, portion controls, and presentation standards.
- Support kitchen station operations (grill/fryer/prep/assembly) as assigned.
- Ensure speed and accuracy during busy service periods.
- Ensure correct order preparation and handover to FOH team for customer service.
- Follow daily prep plans, cooking schedules, and hold-time requirements.
2) Food Safety & Hygiene Compliance
- Follow HACCP, Food Safety, and allergen procedures at all times.
- Prevent cross contamination through correct separation, storage, and cleaning.
- Maintain correct food temperatures (hot holding / cold storage), including recording where required.
- Use and maintain PPE and kitchen safety requirements.
- Ensure personal hygiene and grooming standards are always maintained.
3) Kitchen Cleanliness & Equipment Care
- Maintain high cleanliness standards across kitchen areas throughout the shift.
- Follow daily and weekly cleaning schedules/checklists.
- Clean equipment and workstations safely (fryer, tawa/griddle, bain-marie, hot holding units, prep tables etc.).
- Ensure utensils and equipment are cleaned and stored correctly.
- Report any damaged equipment, unsafe working conditions, or breakdowns immediately.
4) Stock Handling & Waste Control
- Assist with stock receiving, checking, and correct storage (FIFO rotation).
- Label products correctly and ensure date-dot rotation standards are followed.
- Minimise waste through proper portioning, storage and timing control.
- Inform management of low stock levels, expiry risks, or quality issues.
- Support stock counts and kitchen inventory when required.
5) Health & Safety
- Follow safe working practices including:
- manual handling
- knife safety
- safe use of hot surfaces and fryers
- chemical handling and COSHH compliance
- Report accidents, hazards, near misses, and unsafe behaviour immediately.
6) Teamwork & Behaviour
- Support team members during busy times and maintain positive working relationships.
- Follow instructions from management and station leaders.
- Support training of new starters in BOH routines and standards where required.
- Maintain professionalism, integrity and respect in the workplace.

Experience / Qualifications
- Kitchen/QSR experience preferred but not essential
- Level 2 Food Safety or equivalent desirable (training provided if needed)
Working Conditions
- Standing for long periods in a kitchen environment
- Exposure to heat, steam, refrigeration/freezer areas
- Physically active role: lifting, bending, carrying stock/equipment
- Shift work including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays
