Your Role
As an Applications Engineer you will provide specialist technical advice and guidance on the product and service capabilities of James Walker’s broad product range. You will ensure internal and external stakeholders and customers are supported effectively. You will also mentor and support the Technical Advisers in their support duties.
This role includes a ‘hands-on’ service at customer sites in the UK. There may be a requirement to travel internationally to support the EMEA Applications Engineering team.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist and train Internal Sales team in the interpretation of customers’ requirements, and in the selection of the most appropriate product to satisfy these requirement.
- Ensure that where there is a choice of suitable technical solutions, products, or route to manufacture, the most appropriate solution balancing operational and commercial aspects for the particular circumstances are selected.
- Clearly understand when more detailed technical support is required, and to seek assistance from the most appropriate “Technically Competent” member of the MBU’s technical team to resolve the query.
- Ensure that any systems and processes associated with the role comply with both Company policy and relevant legislation.
- Make product and material selection recommendations based upon Published Literature, Internal systems & libraries, and knowledge and experience gained and through targeted training of manufacturing sites products.
- Train internal sales staff on JW product range, part recognition, internal information sources, methods of manufacture and mould selection
- Give, and where necessary, seek advice on manufacture capability.
- Recognize and interpret International, National, Customer and Company specifications.
- Provide guidance such that Customer Support Centre colleagues understand and observe all applicable Company technical, quality product liability policies, rules and procedures, and to set a good personal example in their observance.
- Provide support to MBU Product managers at a local internal level within JWUK.

Essential Skill & Experience
- Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels, face to face, in writing and over the telephone, particularly customers about product applications and mechanical equipment at a technical level.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to read drawings, and produce rough outline sketches.
- Good IT skills
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable to meet business needs, customer needs and changes in processes.
- Ability to work unsupervised and within a team.
- Strong problem-solving capabilities.
Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications
- Incorporated Engineer IMechE (or working towards)
Essential Qualifications
- Engineering Degree, HND, HNC (or equivalent) or relevant apprenticeship
