Ridge has a specialist data centre team delivering engineering solutions for technically demanding mission critical facilities across the UK and Europe. You’ll work with developers, operators, investors and specialist contractors on projects from feasibility and technical due diligence through to detailed design, construction support, commissioning and operational readiness.
As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you’ll lead electrical design on edge, colocation and large-scale campus developments. Your work will cover resilient power systems, renewable energy integration, artificial intelligence-ready infrastructure, high-density computing environments and the electrical interfaces linked to advanced cooling technologies.
You’ll support project teams, mentor developing engineers and provide clear technical advice throughout the project lifecycle, combining engineering judgement with commercial awareness and strong client communication.
What You’ll Be Doing
-
Lead the design and coordination of electrical building services systems on mission critical and data centre projects.
-
Develop electrical designs from concept through to detailed design, construction support and commissioning.
-
Produce and review reports, calculations, drawings, schedules, specifications and tender information.
-
Assess resilient electrical architectures, including N, N+1, 2N and other concurrently maintainable arrangements.
-
Design and coordinate low voltage distribution, standby generation, uninterruptible power supply systems, busbar systems, critical power monitoring and associated controls.
-
Coordinate high voltage and medium voltage design activities with specialist supply chain partners, distribution network operators, utilities and equipment vendors.
-
Review contractor submissions and provide technical support during procurement, tender evaluation and construction.
-
Support surveys, site inspections, defect reviews, commissioning planning and witnessing activities where required.
-
Mentor Graduate, Assistant and Engineer level colleagues and contribute to our data centre standards, tools and best-practice guidance.
-
Build trusted client relationships and represent Ridge professionally in meetings, workshops and design reviews.
What We’re Looking For
-
A degree, Higher National Certificate, Higher National Diploma or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
-
Strong electrical building services design experience, ideally across complex, highly serviced or mission critical environments.
-
Experience delivering coordinated design solutions from concept through to completion.
-
A good understanding of electrical distribution systems, standby generation, uninterruptible power supply technologies and critical power infrastructure.
-
Knowledge of UK electrical regulations, standards and guidance, including BS 7671, EN 50600 and CIBSE guidance.
-
Experience with electrical design software such as EOM or an equivalent platform.
-
Experience of Building Information Modelling (BIM)-enabled project delivery and Revit.
-
Clear communication skills, including report writing, specification writing and technical advice for clients, contractors and colleagues.
-
Ability to manage priorities, check work and deliver high-quality outputs within agreed programmes and budgets.
It Would Also Be Great If You Have
-
Direct experience of data centre, mission critical or highly resilient infrastructure projects.
-
Experience of high voltage or medium voltage electrical design, power system studies, protection coordination or utility connection infrastructure.
-
Experience of ETAP power system analysis software.
-
Experience supporting commissioning, integrated systems testing or operational readiness activities.
-
Chartered Engineer status, or progress towards professional registration through CIBSE, the Institution of Engineering and Technology or an equivalent professional institution.
