Job Title: Attendance Officer
Location: Meadowcroft School, Wakefield, WF1 4AD
Hours: 42.5 per week | Monday to Friday
Salary: £26,881.25 per annum (not pro rata)
Contract: Permanent | Term Time Only

About the Role
As Attendance Officer, you will play a vital role in promoting excellent attendance and supporting pupil wellbeing across the school. Working closely with the Leadership Team, Family Liaison Officers, parents/carers and external agencies, you will monitor attendance patterns, identify early concerns, and coordinate effective interventions to help pupils engage fully in their education. You will use attendance and welfare data to drive improvements, ensure compliance with school policies, and provide high-quality support to pupils and families, particularly those requiring additional support.
Key responsibilities include:
- Promoting excellent attendance and supporting the school in achieving its attendance targets.
- Monitoring, analysing and reporting on attendance and welfare data to identify trends, inform interventions and evaluate their effectiveness.
- Supporting the Leadership Team in tracking attendance, identifying concerns early and implementing appropriate strategies to improve outcomes.
- Maintaining accurate attendance, welfare and safeguarding records across all school systems.
- Ensuring attendance registers are completed accurately and in line with school procedures and timescales.
- Working closely with Family Liaison Officers to monitor daily attendance and follow up on any concerns.
- Investigating unexplained absences promptly and maintaining detailed, accurate casework records.
- Building positive relationships with parents/carers, promoting the importance of regular school attendance and supporting them to meet their legal responsibilities.
- Providing targeted support for pupils and families experiencing attendance difficulties, including those from vulnerable groups.
- Liaising with internal teams, children's services and external agencies to coordinate support and improve attendance and wellbeing outcomes.
- Supporting the implementation of attendance rewards and recognition initiatives.
- Making referrals to appropriate internal and external services where additional support is required.
