We offer an opportunity you simply won’t find anywhere else. In less than six years, Mileway has grown into Europe’s leader in last mile logistics real estate, with a 550-plus team across twenty seven offices in eleven countries.
We are looking for a junior transaction manager to join Mileway, a Blackstone portfolio company dedicated to the last-mile logistics sector. You’ll be part of a strong, dynamic team, working alongside colleagues from all over Europe. In this role, you’d be responsible for an extensive portfolio rationalisation programme, focussing on the sale of Mileway’s non-core assets, currently nearing €1.5bn, located throughout the U.K. and Europe. You’ll work with colleagues across the business to improve the portfolio, consolidating our position as the market leader in last-mile real estate, whilst compounding your transactional, communication, and negotiating skills.
This is an exciting and interesting role that will allow you to grow your logistics acumen, increase your profile within the wider real estate community across Europe, and improve Mileway’s portfolio quality through targeted sales. The right candidate has not only the drive and discipline to handle the day to day, but the ambition to grow with us as we develop an unparalleled opportunity as the principal player in last mile real estate.
Working at Mileway
Mileway set out to be a different kind of real estate company from the beginning, setting things up the way we always wanted them, like our cloud-based IT infrastructure and our team’s ability to flex across borders, combining the best of local knowledge with the pooled expertise of a pan-European business. While we have already achieved a lot, with a portfolio stretching across Europe, our international, can do team, is only just getting started. Demand for e-commerce and ever faster deliveries continues to grow, changing the way property around cities is used.
At Mileway, we believe company growth comes from supporting the growth of our combined capabilities. This is why we have our own inhouse learning & development programme, where personal, professional and business development go hand in hand - helping you carve out your own bespoke career path.
We know that the way people work has changed over the last few years. So while your base will be the London’s West end office, we will give you flexibility to work some of the week from home. We’ll also equip you with a state-of-the-art technology package that helps you keep in touch, wherever you are. That doesn’t mean we need you 24/7. We expect you’ll work hard and also that you’ll need some downtime. Respect for your personal life is key to keeping our team happy and our batteries charged.
What you’ll do
- Formulate a strategy to dispose of properties within a varied real estate portfolio located across the U.K. and Europe, either in sub-portfolios or as stand-alone assets
o With the local asset management teams, confirm that the assets are maximised for its net value prior to sale and sales success
Work with the local AMs to identify and push through any AM initiatives required to prepare the assets for sale. This also means reviewing business plans that are needed for some of the assets to get them in a position so that they can be sold alone or as part of a portfolio
Make sure that the data rooms are prepared and stocked with the relevant information where required, commissioning targeted works if need be working with the AM teams
o Ensure local teams execute their identified non-core sale assets
o Periodically review the identified assets for inclusion as non-core, assess with Blackstone and move into a sales position with it
- Engage with the agency and investment community throughout the U.K. and Europe in the sales process, managing non-core/strategic disposals working both independently and also with locally-based colleagues
- Deal execution: liaise and coordinate with legal, finance/treasury, asset management, and SP&A (research and data) colleagues to bring the transactions to conclusion, keeping Blackstone advised as needed. Where execution halts, reassess if strategy should be revised
- Preparing reporting and communication to the wider Mileway and Blackstone teams
- Source transactions for Mileway acquisitions when time allows
What you’ll bring
- 3-5 years’ experience professional experience in underwriting, deal coordination/execution, perhaps in logistics
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g. finance, business administration)
- Your team attitude. We can trust you to get on with things independently, but you’re also thinking about what’s best for the team. You’re comfortable communicating up and down the business and can explain concepts to colleagues with other fields of expertise.
- Your real estate experience, including coordination of internal/external DD teams, good communication skills, some asset management awareness and acumen, and importantly, an ability to evaluate risk and problem-solve
- A hands-on approach that enables you to drive projects forward while maintaining a good relationship with other members of the deal team.
- An ability to think commercially and prioritise while working across multiple projects at any one time. You will be able to work against defined goals and near-term targets
Our vision is to be the number one gateway to urban communities. To get there, we live our values: Drive, Trust, Grow, Together.
