Photography Technician
Salary: £12,531.27 per annum, including holiday pay (pro rata)
Pay Scale: Range 4, Point 19
Contractual Hours: 21 hours per week ( Monday to Wednesday)
Basis: Part-time
About the Role
We are seeking a creative, organised and technically skilled Photography Technician to support the delivery of photography teaching and learning within our College.
The successful candidate will provide technical support to students and teaching staff, ensuring that photography equipment, studios and facilities are safe, well maintained and ready for use. You will help students develop their practical and technical skills while supporting the smooth running of photography sessions and projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical support to photography students and teaching staff.
- Prepare photography studios, equipment and materials for lessons and practical sessions.
- Demonstrate the safe and effective use of cameras, lighting, studio equipment and other photography resources.
- Support students with practical photography projects, including equipment setup and troubleshooting.
- Maintain, organise and monitor photography equipment and resources.
- Carry out routine checks and report faults or maintenance requirements.
- Ensure photography spaces and equipment are kept clean, organised and safe.
- Support the management of equipment loans and returns.
- Assist with the preparation and organisation of student exhibitions, displays and photography projects.
- Keep up to date with relevant photography technology, equipment and industry practices.
- Promote safe working practices and ensure College health and safety procedures are followed.
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff and other technical staff to provide an effective learning environment.
About You
We are looking for someone with a good knowledge of photography and practical experience of using photography equipment and studio facilities.
You should have:
- Practical knowledge and experience of photography.
- Experience using digital cameras, lighting and studio equipment.
- Good technical and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to explain technical processes clearly and support students with different levels of experience.
- Good organisational and time-management skills.
- An understanding of health and safety requirements when working with photography equipment and studio facilities.
- The ability to work independently as well as as part of a wider team.
- A positive, patient and supportive approach to working with students.
Desirable Experience
Experience of working in an educational, college or creative arts environment would be advantageous. Knowledge of relevant digital photography and image-editing software would also be beneficial.
