Service Engineer (Mechanical) – Coordinate Measuring Machines
Field-based, UK | Frequent UK & international travel (incl. Germany & USA) | £40,000–£55,000 + benefits
Precision is your comfort zone. So is a departures board.
We build and maintain some of the most accurate measuring machines on the planet — and our customers, from aerospace to automotive, depend on them running flawlessly. We're looking for a mechanically-minded Service Engineer who'd rather be hands-on with a machine than tied to a desk, and who sees a week away in Stuttgart or Detroit as a perk, not a chore.
What you'll be doing
You'll install, service, calibrate and repair Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) at customer sites across the UK and overseas. One week you might be aligning a bridge structure and stripping down an air-bearing axis in the Midlands; the next you're on-site with a customer in Germany or supporting a major install in the United States. Mechanical work is the heart of the role — mechanical assembly, alignment, fault-finding and precision adjustment — with the electrical, software and metrology side there to complement it.
This is a role for someone who takes real ownership: you're the face of the company on-site, the person who gets a customer's measuring system back into production and leaves them glad they called us.
What we're looking for
- A strong mechanical background — mechanical/mechatronic engineering apprenticeship, HNC/HND, degree, or solid equivalent hands-on experience
- Confidence diagnosing and repairing precision mechanical systems; CMM, machine tool, or comparable high-accuracy equipment experience is a big plus
- Genuine willingness to travel extensively and stay away from home — including regular trips to Europe and the USA
- A full UK driving licence and a valid passport (or the ability to obtain one)
- Self-motivated, methodical, and calm under pressure with customers watching
- Great communication skills — you'll be representing us directly to clients
Nice to have: metrology or GD&T knowledge, and familiarity with CMM software.
What you'll get
- Salary of £40,000–£55,000 depending on experience
- All travel, accommodation and subsistence covered, plus overseas allowance
- Company vehicle, tools and equipment provided
- Training on our machines and the chance to become a genuine specialist
- Pension - 25 days holiday + bank holidays & Christmas shutdown
