We are looking for a hands-on Accounts Manager to take ownership of the day-to-day accounts function for our group of four companies.
The group has a turnover of approximately £10.5m, employs over 150 people and operates three award winning garden centres. This is a practical, hands-on role for someone who is technically strong, highly organised and confident leading a small, friendly, central team.
We are looking for someone who enjoys being close to the detail, understands how a retail business works, has strong analytical skills and can take responsibility for making sure the accounts function runs accurately and efficiently across all three local sites.
Key Responsibilities:
- Take overall responsibility for the day-to-day running of the accounts function across four companies, ensuring all information is up to date and accurate.
- Managing and supporting our existing accounts team.
- Produce accurate, fully reconciling monthly trial balances, ready for external review.
- Review, identify and resolve discrepancies, posting errors and reconciliation issues.
- Investigate variances and unusual movements.
- Ensure sales, purchases, cash, banking and stock-related transactions are accurately recorded.
- Run and manage monthly payroll for all sites, ensuring accuracy and compliance
- Support cash flow management.
- Maintain strong financial controls and consistent procedures across all sites.
- Maintain VAT records and support external advisors with submissions.
- Ad hoc projects as required and supporting the managing director.
- Opportunity to be involved with internal financial reporting.
About You:
- Strong background in hands-on financial accounting/bookkeeping roles.
- Experience with month end processes and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Strong knowledge of double entry bookkeeping and resolving discrepancies.
- Cash flow management experience
- Understands financial information rather than just processing data.
- Previous experience in retail preferred.
- Experience with EPOS systems and Sage preferred.
- Very strong Excel skills
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Good organisation skills and able to take full ownership.
- Confident communicator with leadership experience.
- Have a good understanding of internal controls relevant to a retail business.

Pay: £35,000.00-£40,000.00 per year
