Lanarkshire Pride CIC supports, empowers and celebrates the LGBTQI+ community across Lanarkshire. We deliver inclusive projects, events and support services, with a focus on creating safe spaces for LGBTQI+ people.
The Role
The Assistant Workshop Support Facilitator works alongside the Workshop Support Facilitator to help deliver safe, inclusive and welcoming youth drop-in sessions for LGBTQI+ young people aged 16–24 in Hamilton and Motherwell.
This is a supporting role. You will take direction from the Workshop Support Facilitator on the day, helping with the practical running of each session, the welcome and wellbeing of participants, and the paperwork that keeps the project safe and accountable. Successful candidates must be available for regular weekend and evening work.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Workshop Support Facilitator in the planning and delivery of weekly workshops for LGBTQI+ young people aged 16–24
- Assist with workshop administration, including maintaining registers, capturing participant contact details, processing consent forms and ensuring all essential paperwork is kept up to date
- Assist with the practical set-up and pack-down of workshop spaces, ensuring a welcoming and well-organised environment for each session
- Provide a warm and attentive welcome to participants, helping them feel safe and included from the moment they arrive Support guest tutors, speakers and facilitators during sessions, assisting with any practical or logistical needs as they arise
- Monitor group dynamics during workshops and flag any concerns or welfare issues to the Workshop Support Facilitator promptly Assist with signposting participants to relevant support and information as directed by the Workshop Support Facilitator
- Contribute to the smooth day-to-day running of the programme by communicating clearly with the Workshop Support Facilitator and Project Directors
- Attend occasional in-person and online meetings
- Where applicable, ensure the venue exit checklist is followed fully without exception and that the venue is locked after use, with any heaters or other such items turned off- Contract subject to funding
PVG / Disclosure Scotland Requirements
Any offer of engagement is conditional upon the successful applicant joining Lanarkshire Pride CIC's PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) Disclosure Scotland scheme, and is subject to a satisfactory PVG check being completed.
Person Specification
Essential
- Some experience of working or volunteering with young people in a youth work, community, education or wellbeing setting An understanding of the issues facing LGBTQI+ young people, and a commitment to inclusive practice Ability to work as part of a team and take direction from a session lead Good communication and interpersonal skills, with a warm and approachable manner Reliable, punctual and organised, with attention to detail in record-keeping and paperwork An understanding of safeguarding principles and the importance of professional boundaries Willingness to obtain PVG Scheme membership
Desirable
- Relevant qualification or training in youth work, community learning, social care, mental health or a related field Lived experience of, or previous involvement with, LGBTQI+ groups or peer-led spaces Knowledge of local support services and referral pathways Experience of freelance or sessional youth work delivery
Status and Payment
This is a freelance engagement specific to the Pride Connect Youth Project. It does not imply any relationship between Lanarkshire Pride CIC and yourself that could be interpreted as a contract of employment. You are not an employee of Lanarkshire Pride CIC and you will be responsible for your own income tax and National Insurance arrangements with HMRC or any other relevant agencies.
Payment is made by bank transfer within 14 days of an invoice being submitted at the end of the month.
