We are looking to recruit the following TPDs on 2 sessions for the following areas:
TPD Birmingham and Solihull Area
TPD Staffordshire / Shropshire
The TPD role involves working with the local education team supporting GP Registrars to perform and achieve their potential during GP Training hopefully graduating with MRCGP.
The role involves preparation, facilitation and delivery of teaching sessions as well as pastoral support for a small group and individuals within the GP Training Programme. There is an expectation to work within the local programme team, help support trainers and be involved in the assessment process.
Responsibility for organising and participating in the educational programme for GP Registrars, including some face to face and virtual education delivery.
- Support for both GP Registrars and local educators to ensure any developments are well-communicated and issues addressed.
- Ensuring that all GP Registrars are assessed appropriately and that the ARCP processes are implemented
- Payment is for 2 sessions per week, but it is important to have a flexible attitude to work as there can be a variable workload
- When commitments allow, support the GP School and local teams with other initiatives and educational strategies such as exam support teams, support for neurodiversity, iTAP consultation days, trainers’ workshops and regional training days.
- When necessary, provide pastoral support for doctors in training who are facing challenges in training or their personal life. Support the AD with any visits to practices when necessary.
- Support the Area Teams and GP School with any appropriate educational innovations. Liaise and work with Foundation Schools, Training Hubs, local Trusts and Medical Schools as necessary.
- Liaise with the Primary Care School Programmes/Assessments/Support Teams as well as the PMDE Professional Support and Wellbeing Service and the Lead Employer regarding doctors in training.
- Working with teams to facilitate induction of GP Registrars, undertake 1:1 conversations with new starters, providing additional support for international doctors or those new to the NHS.
- Working with GP practices and other education providers to ensure that balanced and quality rotations are available to GP Registrars

Remuneration will for 2 sessions at GP00 point of national GP educator pay scale.
1 session is usually ascribed to the educational day release which is currently held on Thursday and as Programme Director, you would be expected to be available to participate, unless of leave. The second session is more flexible but there will be some requirement to be available for the second session on a Thursday some weeks.
Please note although based in the local programme there will be regular travel around the the West Midlands to attend training days.
In order to start at GP01 pay grade the applicant will need:
- Confirm they have 12 months or more experience at the lower GP00 grade.
