Senior Care Assistant
Reports to: Registered Manager and Deputy Manager
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced, compassionate and motivated Senior Care Assistant to join our residential care team.
As a Senior Care Assistant, you will lead by example, providing high-quality, person-centred care while supporting and guiding Care Assistants during each shift. You will play a key role in ensuring residents receive safe, effective and dignified care, whilst helping to maintain excellent clinical standards and compliance within the home.

Key Responsibilities, Leadership & Team Support
- Lead and support the care team throughout each shift, promoting high standards of care at all times.
- Allocate workloads and ensure care is delivered safely and effectively.
- Provide guidance, mentoring and support to Care Assistants.
- Assist with the induction and competency development of new team members.
- Work closely with the Registered Manager and Deputy Manager to ensure the smooth running of the home.
- Act as a positive role model, promoting professionalism, teamwork and person-centred care.
Resident Care
- Deliver high-quality, compassionate care in accordance with individual care plans.
- Assist residents with personal care, mobility, nutrition, hydration and daily living activities.
- Promote dignity, independence, privacy and choice.
- Build positive relationships with residents and their families.
Medication & Clinical Responsibilities
- Administer medication safely and accurately in accordance with company policies and current legislation.
- Monitor residents' health and wellbeing, recognising and responding to any changes in condition.
- Respond appropriately to medical emergencies and escalate concerns where necessary.
- Liaise with GPs, District Nurses, Community Teams and other healthcare professionals to ensure residents receive appropriate care.
Care Planning & Documentation
- Complete accurate and timely care records.
- Support the completion and review of person-centred care plans and risk assessments.
- Participate in resident reviews and multidisciplinary meetings where appropriate.
- Complete shift handovers, daily records and incident reports to a high standard.
- Assist with supervisions, competency assessments and other delegated management tasks.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure all care is delivered in line with CQC Fundamental Standards, company policies and current legislation.
- Maintain high standards of infection prevention and control.
- Follow safeguarding procedures and report concerns immediately.
- Promote safe moving and handling practices.
- Support the maintenance of Health & Safety and Fire Safety procedures throughout the home.

Essential
- NVQ/QCF Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care (or equivalent), or willingness to work towards the qualification.
- Previous experience working within residential, dementia or elderly care.
- Experience administering medication safely.
- Good written, verbal and numerical skills.
- Ability to lead a team and work independently.
- Flexible approach to working shifts, including weekends and occasional nights where required.
Desirable
- Previous experience in a Senior Care Assistant or Team Leader role.
- First Aid qualification.
- Knowledge of CQC regulations and person-centred care practices.
- Experience completing care plans, risk assessments and staff supervision.

Working Pattern
- Full-time and Part-time opportunities available.
- Permanent contract.
- Early and late shifts on a rota basis.
- Weekend working required as part of the rota.
- Flexibility to cover additional shifts where required.
