Job Overview
The primary purpose of this role is to be responsible for leading, inspiring and coaching the Midlands Sales team in order to grow the Midlands depot and exceed the annual target. The role requires good sales leadership skills with an understanding of processes. You will provide guidance and support to the sales team to ensure they have the tools and knowledge to effectively promote and sell Southern Sheeting products.
This role is very ‘hands on’ and you will lead by example in regard to undertaking all general sales duties. The role will also involve monitoring goals and team performance and implementing strategies to enhance team productivity. You will work very closely with the Regional Commercial Manager and also collaborate with other departments to contribute to the overall success of the business.
Key Accountabilities
- To manage and motivate the internal sales team on daily tasks to grow sales, margin and productivity.
- To assist in the overall contribution to the sales targets and profitability of the branch.
- Control and act on ways to increase margin.
- General Sales duties including call answering, dealing with customer enquiries at the trade counter and via email.
- Raising sales orders and purchase orders.
- Deliver outstanding customer service and experience.
- Generating sales from new and existing customers.
- Generate new business opportunities by proactively contacting leads and potential clients through outbound calls.
- Manage and maintain an accurate record of all interactions and follow-ups with clients.
- Work closely with sales colleagues, Regional Account Managers and the Regional Commercial manager to implement strategies to optimise lead generation, conversion rates and revenue/margin growth.
- To help create a solid team work ethic at the branch by coaching and performance managing.
- Performing 1-2-1 meetings with the staff.
- Monitor sales targets, quotas and KPI’s for the team and take corrective actions when necessary.
- Provide coaching and guidance to the sales team to enhance their product knowledge, selling skills and customer service.
- Collaborate with operations to ensure smooth coordination of sales activities.
- Maintain detailed records of sales activities, customer interactions and sales pipelines
Knowledge and Experience
- Proven experience in Sales team leadership
- Understanding of building and construction industry products.
- Understanding of national and independent builders’ merchants.
- Experience of sales quoting, being proactive and chasing sales leads.
- Experience in dealing directly with customers face to face, via the telephone and email.
- Understanding of margin and business P&L.
- A proven track record of working to and achieving sales targets.
Skills and abilities
- Excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills with the ability to build a rapport and influence customer decisions.
- Ability to effectively plan workload and meet deadlines
- A strong foundation in basic mathematics and written English
- Good IT skills.

- Ability to interpret data to make recommendations and solve problems.

Experience:
- Sales Supervisory: 3 years (preferred)
