About the Role
We are looking for a competent and experienced Commercial Gas Engineer/Pipefitter to join our team, working on a range of industrial and engineering projects across the UK.
This is a varied, hands-on role offering a mix of commercial gas work and pipefitting alongside wider engineering activities. You will work as part of our broader team, supporting machinery installation and movement, ductwork, mechanical fitting, and assisting other engineers with general site duties as required.
The role involves frequent travel, overnight stays and weekend work. Applicants must be comfortable working away from home for extended periods when projects require it.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, alter and maintain commercial gas pipework and associated equipment.
- Carry out gas work safely and in accordance with your Gas Safe competencies and current regulations.
- Test, purge and commission commercial gas pipework.
- Diagnose faults and complete repairs on commercial gas systems and equipment.
- Carry out general industrial pipefitting on gas and non-gas systems.
- Measure, cut, thread, prepare and install pipework using appropriate jointing methods.
- Read and work from engineering drawings, layouts and site instructions.
- Complete all required safety checks, test records and project documentation.
- Assist with the movement, positioning and installation of industrial machinery.
- Support ductwork, mechanical installation and general fitting activities.
- Work alongside engineers, fitters and other trades to complete projects safely and on schedule.
- Maintain tools, testing equipment and materials in good working order.
- Follow all company and site health and safety requirements.
- Travel to customer sites throughout the UK and stay away from home as required.
- Work weekends and additional hours when needed to meet project schedules.
Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- Current Gas Safe registration with valid commercial competencies relevant to the work being undertaken.
- Current commercial gas pipework testing and purging competencies.
- Proven experience as a Commercial Gas Engineer and Pipefitter.
- Experience installing, testing, commissioning, maintaining and repairing commercial gas systems within your approved competencies.
- Strong industrial pipefitting skills and knowledge of pipe preparation, jointing, installation and support systems.
- Ability to read and work accurately from engineering drawings and technical information.
- Good fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to complete relevant testing, safety and commissioning documentation accurately.
- A strong understanding of safe working practices and commercial gas requirements.
- A practical, flexible approach and willingness to assist with duties outside commercial gas work.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a wider site team.
- Willingness and availability to travel, stay away from home and work weekends regularly.
- Ability to work in physically demanding environments, including at height when properly trained and authorised.
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Experience working in industrial facilities and with commercial boilers, burners or process-heating systems.
- Experience with carbon steel pipework and larger-bore commercial gas installations.
- Experience with machinery moving, ductwork or mechanical installation.
- Relevant safety qualifications, working at height, manual handling, etc.
Working Hours
- When working away from home, the standard working hours are 7:00am to 7:00pm.
- Working hours may vary depending on project requirements.
- Regular weekend work will be required.
