Job Summary
We are seeking committed and passionate Children's Residential Support Workers to be part of our team in setting up and opening a new children's home for up to 3 children aged 11 - 17yrs. This role involves providing high-quality, therapeutically informed care and support to children in a residential setting, ensuring their safety, wellbeing, and development. The successful candidate will work closely with children, their families, and multidisciplinary teams to promote positive outcomes and foster a nurturing environment. This position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in young lives while developing professional skills within the childcare sector.
Responsibilities:
1. Primary
1.1 To play a role in the establishment, maintenance and development of the safe environment and experience of the Home, thus providing children with a calm and relaxed living experience, conducive to their individual needs, personal happiness and development.
1.2 To invest in the Home’s ethos and policies.
1.3 To be actively involved in planning and participating in the Home’s recreational and social activities, and fully engage with the children in positive, enjoyable, and socially extending range of leisure pursuits and activities, offering the opportunity for new experiences.
1.4 To respect and maintain confidentiality.
1.5 To be part of a positive team culture, where safeguarding, good communication, appropriate support, child-centred practice, and understanding are fundamental to that culture.
1.6 To liaise with other professionals and agencies, working together to achieve safeguarding aims, developmental and education outcomes, and individual Care Plan outcomes.
2. The Children
2.1 To establish good relationships with the children based on consistency, confidence, trust, understanding, and mutual respect, setting a good example to the children and colleagues.
2.2 To support the children in developing socially acceptable standards of behaviour, and integrating them into the wider community.
2.3 To provide support to the children, giving guidance and counselling of a personal and social nature at a level which meets their individual needs.
2.4 To engage and supervise the children at all times, positively managing any challenging behaviours, while respecting their choices and opportunities.
2.5 To be responsible as key-worker for a child, undertaking casework, report writing, and initiating and implementing individual care plans. To co-ordinate meetings and appointments, and to attend as required.

2.7 To follow Individual Care Plans and Placement Plans at all times. To recommend changes where appropriate.
2.8 To complete and follow an individual’s risk assessments, updating and communicating any changes in a timely manner.
2.9 To advocate for the children at all times.
2.10 To be non-judgemental in understanding each child as an individual with their needs, wishes, aspirations, and life experiences.
2.11 To promote learning for independence opportunities for each child, including supporting formal education.
2.12 To work in a child-centred manner that puts the child first at the centre of their care and support.
2.13 To be part of facilitating positive contacts for each child with family, friends, and others where appropriate, including providing transport as necessary.
3. Staff Group
3.1 To participate in the Home’s Staff Development Programme, and your Personal Development Plan.
3.2 To attend and participate in all staff meetings.
3.3 To participate in all in-house training, online training, and specialist training with the team or as directed.
3.4 To undertake supervision as part of personal development, and achieve any goals that may be set.
3.4 To be involved in the induction and initial support of new staff.
3.5 To communicate effectively with the team, provide support, and share in the common goals of the team.
4. Assessment, Recording, and Reporting.
4.1 To make full use of the Home’s recording systems, ensuring that child's progress and development is evidenced accurately and fully. Initially, recording will be paper-based, but later this will involve the use of Clear Care following training.
4.2 To contribute towards reports as required, including individual child weekly/monthly summaries, review reports, and any other report requested.
4.3 To attend and contribute to Statutory Reviews, care planning, core group, education, or other meetings as required.
4.4 To complete daily/weekly monitoring checks.
4.5 To effectively record incidents, accidents, complaints, and to ensure these are signed and dated.
5. Resources.
5.1 To make effective and efficient use of the resources available within the Home, and to be aware of resources provided within the community.
5.2 To maintain the orderliness of the child’s living areas and social areas, and ensure that Health and Safety standards are fully maintained.
5.3 To ensure that Health and Safety Policies and Procedures are followed at all times, including environmental, fire safety, and food hygiene.
5.3 To plan for and request any additional resources that might be needed, including maintenance needs.
6. Management, Organisation, and Administration.
6.1 To monitor objectively the quality of relationships between the children, between staff and children, and between all staff, with the constant aim of improving relationships within the Home.
6.2 To ensure that full and complete casework records of the child’s progress are maintained in respect of child for whom you are key-worker.
7. General Duties.
7.1 To perform any other reasonable task that the Registered Manager or their appointed deputy may request from time to time.
7.2 To act as driver and/or support transporting children to and from school, on shopping trips, and activities.
7.4 To work on a rota basis, sharing duties with other team members.
7.3 To perform sleeping-in duties as required (paid at £65/night).
7.4 To accompany the child on holidays, or short breaks away from the home.

The post-holder will be expected to contribute to safeguarding child and promoting their welfare in accordance with the agreed Child Protection Policy for the Home. Any issues or concerns are reported to their Designated Safeguarding Lead. If the Designated Safeguarding Lead is not available, any safeguarding concerns must immediately be reported to the senior on duty.

This Job Description gives an outline of the duties and responsibilities of the role of Children’s Residential Support Worker. However, the role is inevitably more varied, interesting, fulfilling and challenging. It requires resilience, passion, and a commitment to working together as a team to achieve the best outcomes for children and young people who have experienced trauma and abuse in their earlier years. As such, the Job Description does not describe the totality of the role which will include other duties required to support the children in feeling cared for, safe, loved, and happy, giving each child the opportunity to grow and develop towards a healthy independence.
Requirements
- Prior experience working with children or in childcare settings is desirable but not essential; training will be provided
- Valid driving licence and ability to drive safely is preferred
- Strong communication skills to effectively engage with children, families, and team members
- An empathic understanding with a genuine interest in supporting children's development and wellbeing
- Good organisational skills to manage multiple responsibilities efficiently
- IT literacy for maintaining accurate records and documentation
- Ability to work flexibly across shifts including evenings, weekends, or sleep-in duties as required on a rolling rota
- Commitment to safeguarding policies and maintaining a professional approach at all times.
- Resilience, commitment, and a passion to support children with social, emotional, and behavioural needs.

Pay: £13.50-£14.50 per hour
