Job Overview
About us
Puzzle Plumbers Ltd is a growing plumbing, heating and renewables contractor specialising exclusively in new-build residential developments across Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire. We install full plumbing, heating, underfloor heating and air source heat pump systems for regional developers, and we're MCS certified with in-house heat pump design capability.
With the Future Homes Standard making heat pumps the default on all new homes from 2027, demand for what we do is growing fast. We have a team of ten and have ambitious plans to scale — this role is central to that growth.
The role
This is our first dedicated commercial hire, working directly with the Director. You'll take ownership of the estimating and commercial function:
- Taking off drawings and producing plot-by-plot prices for plumbing, heating, UFH and ASHP packages
- Building and maintaining templated pricing by house type and specification
- Preparing and submitting tenders to developers and following them up
- Pricing and agreeing variations; managing contra-charges
- Preparing applications for payment and valuations; tracking retentions
- Liaising with developers' buyers and QSs
- Supporting materials procurement with accurate quantities and plot kit lists
You'll have real influence here — the systems you build become how the company prices work as it grows.
What we're looking for
- Estimating and/or QS experience in building services, M&E, plumbing & heating, or a closely related trade (main contractor commercial staff looking to move to a specialist also welcome)
- Able to take off from architects' drawings and produce accurate, well-presented tenders
- Confident with Excel; experience with estimating software an advantage
- Organised, self-sufficient and comfortable in a small, fast-moving business
- Knowledge of heat pumps, UFH or renewables is a bonus, not a requirement — we'll teach you the technical side
- Full UK driving licence
Why join us
- Commercial role in a company positioned exactly where the industry is heading
- Work directly with the Director — no layers, decisions made quickly
- Genuine progression: this role can grow into Commercial Manager as we scale
