Planner (BR13) – Planning
Hours: 37 Hours Per Week, Mon – Fri
Contract: 26 Week Temporary Contract (with possibility of extension)
Location: Churchill Court, 2 Westmoreland Road, Bromley, Kent, BR1 1AS, United Kingdom
Work Pattern: 1 day in office, plus committee attendance
We're recruiting a Planner to support Bromley Council's Housing, Planning & Regeneration Group. This is a key professional role, ideal for someone experienced in handling complex planning applications and confident in delivering high-quality, customer-focused services.
About the Role
As a Planner, you'll take responsibility for processing a varied caseload of complex and major planning applications, preparing robust reports, and supporting the management team in delivering a high-quality planning service.
What you'll be doing:
- Leading on the borough's most complex and high-profile planning applications and appeals, including strategic sites and large-scale developments
- Preparing high-quality reports and making clear recommendations to committee or senior management
- Leading pre-application discussions and Planning Performance Agreements (PPAs) for major developments
- Managing complex legal agreements, including Section 106 obligations
- Advising and supporting Planning Enforcement officers with breaches of planning control
- Commissioning and overseeing external professional services, ensuring value for money
- Representing the Council at public inquiries, hearings, and in court
- Advising Councillors and stakeholders on planning matters
- Supervising and mentoring junior staff within the division
- Exercising delegated authority to sign off planning applications
What We're Looking For
We're seeking someone proactive, solution-focused, and confident in managing complex planning matters.
You'll ideally have:
- In-depth knowledge of planning legislation and policy
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written
- Ability to present cases clearly to Councillors, in court, and at appeal
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage a busy workload
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Experience mentoring or supervising junior colleagues
- Skilled at interpreting technical plans and documents
