About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Piping Designer to join our growing engineering and fabrication team. This is a permanent staff position working on a wide variety of industrial projects, producing detailed piping designs and fabrication drawings for manufacture and installation.
Working closely with project managers, engineers, clients and the workshop, you will play a key role in delivering practical, buildable solutions from concept through to fabrication. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in industrial piping design using AutoCAD, with experience of AutoCAD Plant 3D being advantageous.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce high-quality piping layouts, fabrication drawings, general arrangement drawings and isometrics using AutoCAD.
- Develop detailed piping designs from P&IDs, client specifications and engineering information.
- Prepare fabrication and installation drawings suitable for manufacture.
- Generate bills of materials and drawing registers.
- Work closely with the fabrication workshop to ensure designs are practical, efficient and manufacturable.
- Liaise with project managers, engineers, clients and suppliers throughout the project lifecycle.
- Participate in design reviews and incorporate comments and design changes where required.
- Provide technical support during fabrication and installation, resolving design queries as they arise.
- Ensure drawings are completed accurately, to agreed standards and within project timescales.
- Maintain drawing revisions and document control in accordance with company procedures.
Skills & Experience
- HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Previous experience as a Piping Designer within an engineering and fabrication environment.
- Proficient in AutoCAD.
- Experience producing fabrication and installation drawings for industrial piping systems.
- Good understanding of engineering drawings, piping layouts and fabrication methods.
- Ability to interpret P&IDs and engineering specifications.
- Experience preparing bills of materials.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with engineers, workshop personnel and clients.
- Able to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable
- Experience using AutoCAD Plant 3D.
- Knowledge of pipe supports, structural steelwork and equipment layouts.
- Experience within the food, chemical, process, energy or manufacturing sectors.
- Familiarity with relevant British and international piping standards.
Pay: £45,000.00-£55,000.00 per year
