About Turcan Connell
We're Scotland's leading independent law firm that acts for individuals. We are trusted by esteemed entrepreneurs, families, landowners, business owners and philanthropists through the decisions that define their lives. Succession and estate planning, wealth protection, family law, high-value property and philanthropy. Complex, high-stakes work that demands technical excellence alongside instinct, empathy and care.
Our relationships run deep. Many span years, decades, generations within families.
Around 270 people work here across Edinburgh, Glasgow and London. Everyone is known, valued and genuinely supported. Partners are accessible. Knowledge is shared openly. Standards are held collectively and raised together.
Most of our partners started here as trainees. That's not a coincidence, it's our culture. If you're ambitious, empathetic and uncompromisingly professional, you'll feel at home here.
Opportunity
We have a rewarding opportunity for a full-time solicitor to join one of our Tax & Succession teams which specialises in advice to landed estates, rural businesses and high-net worth families with complex ownership and asset structuring arrangements.
Ideally individuals will be Scottish qualified with at least 2 years of post-qualification experience in this area of work. However, we are also interested in hearing from solicitors who are qualified in England & Wales, as well as from professionals in the tax advisory sector with a similar level of experience who may not have legal qualifications but will be familiar with the tax and succession issues facing our clients.
The role will principally be based in our Edinburgh office although we support a hybrid working approach.
Our tax and succession specialists advise individuals and families on all aspects of estate planning including succession planning, trusts and asset protection for high-net-worth families, as well as dealing with the administration of estates and drafting relevant legal documents for their affairs.
In providing advice to clients, you will work with other tax and succession, land and property, business law, charity law, family law, employment law and litigation experts to ensure that fully integrated holistic advice is given to our clients.
As you will become a trusted adviser and sounding board to your clients, you will need to have an interest in people and their affairs, and will act with discretion and empathy.
Skills/Qualifications
In order to be successful, you will be a strong team player with sound practical and technical experience. You will have curiosity and enthusiasm to develop your technical skills and progress your career in a collegiate and supportive environment with technical excellence and high-quality loyal clients.
You will be a full STEP member or have commenced STEP studies with a view to full STEP membership on completion. Depending on other professional qualifications and experience, candidates who are not members of STEP should be willing to complete the STEP diploma (which will be funded by Turcan Connell).
You will be proactive, diligent, commercially aware and able to handle a wide variety of challenging work with minimum supervision whilst exercising reasoned judgment.
Turcan Connell will provide you with the opportunity to build on your career and realise your ambitions in an environment with an unrivalled reputation, and a commitment to our colleagues as individuals. We invest in the development of our talent and provide outstanding training opportunities within a congenial working environment. We have a very strong team across the Firm, and many of our colleagues have chosen to invest their whole career at the Firm. Through living our Firm’s values, we make you feel looked after.
