Trainee Alarm & Security Systems Engineer
Location: Southampton, covering Hampshire, Dorset, Devon and Cornwall
Starting salary: £22,000–£35,000 per annum, depending on experience
Future earning potential: Over £40,000 once fully trained and experienced
Intruder Alert Systems has been providing professional security services since 2009. Due to the continued expansion of our electronic security division, we are looking for a motivated individual to join our Southampton-based team as a Trainee Alarm & Security Systems Engineer.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is practical, technically minded and keen to build a long-term career within the electronic security industry. Previous security-system experience would be helpful but is not essential, as structured training and practical, on-the-job support will be provided.
The role
Working alongside our experienced engineers, you will be trained in the installation, servicing, maintenance and fault-finding of:
- Intruder alarm systems
- CCTV and video surveillance systems
- Access control systems
- Door-entry systems
- Automated gates and barriers
- Remotely monitored security systems
- IP-based and networked security equipment
As your knowledge and competence develop, you will be given greater responsibility and the opportunity to progress into a fully qualified, multi-disciplined Security Systems Engineer.

The ideal candidate
We are looking for someone who:
- Has a genuine interest in electronics, security technology, IT or engineering
- Is practical and confident using hand and power tools
- Has good problem-solving and logical-thinking skills
- Is reliable, punctual and willing to learn
- Can communicate professionally with customers and colleagues
- Is comfortable working independently and as part of a team
- Has a basic understanding of computers, networks or IP technology
- Holds a full UK driving licence
- Is willing to travel throughout our operating area when required
- Can successfully complete the necessary security screening and background checks
Previous experience in electrical work, telecommunications, IT, construction, engineering or a similar practical occupation would be beneficial, but it is not essential.
IPAF, PASMA and asbestos-awareness training would also be advantageous, although appropriate training can be provided where required.
