- Monday–Friday (Morning): 7:00am–9:00am — Double-up call
- Monday–Friday (Afternoon/Evening): 4:00pm–6:00pm — Single-carer call
- Saturday: 10:00am–2:00pm — Single-carer call
During School half term, hours may vary. Typically 4 hours daily
Driver: Preferred – full UK driving license and access to a vehicle desirable
Salary: £14.50 per hour
About the Role
KASE Care is recruiting a compassionate, patient and reliable Female Children’s Support Worker to provide dedicated support to a 12-year-old boy in his family home in Southgate, N14.
He is a non-verbal young person with autism, intellectual/learning disabilities and complex epilepsy, including Lennox–Gastaut syndrome (LGS). His epilepsy involves multiple seizure types, including tonic seizures, alongside cognitive difficulties.
This is a consistent package of care supporting one child and his family. We are therefore looking for someone who can build a trusting relationship with him, learn his individual routines and communication, and provide calm, consistent and person-centred support.
Experience supporting children with complex epilepsy, autism, non-verbal communication and/or learning disabilities would be highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
The successful Support Worker will provide safe, consistent and person-centred support based on the young person’s individual needs, routines and care plan.
Responsibilities will include:
- Supporting with daily routines, including getting ready for school and settling after school.
- Providing personal care, including bathing/washing, toileting, dressing and oral hygiene.
- Supporting with meals, snacks and drinks, including assistance with eating where required and recording food/fluid intake when necessary.
- Providing close supervision and monitoring due to his complex epilepsy and seizure risk.
- Following his individual epilepsy/seizure management plan, care plan, risk assessments and clinical guidance.
- Supporting a non-verbal young person by learning and responding appropriately to his individual communication, behaviours, preferences and cues.
- Providing encouragement and consistent prompts to support dressing and personal care, particularly where he may be reluctant to wear clothing.
- Offering appropriate choices and encouraging him to complete tasks as independently as possible.
- Using positive encouragement and praise to support participation and successful completion of tasks.
- Engaging him in activities he enjoys, including games, books, puzzles, colouring, television and sensory activities.
- Using his preferred sensory resources to support engagement, regulation and transitions.
- Supporting safe and positive transitions between activities, home and school routines.
- Providing companionship and meaningful engagement while also giving his mother valuable respite time.
- Maintaining a safe, calm and structured environment and encouraging him to participate in tidying where appropriate.
- Working closely with his mother and following established routines, recognising her knowledge of his individual needs and preferences.
- Completing accurate care records, including relevant observations and strategies that have worked particularly well.
- Reporting any concerns, changes in presentation or health-related observations promptly through the appropriate KASE Care/clinical channels.
Medication: His mother currently administers his medication.
About You
We are looking for a calm, caring, patient, observant and dependable Female Children’s Support Worker who can provide consistency and build a trusting relationship with the young person and his family.
Due to his complex needs, the successful candidate should be confident providing close supervision while promoting his choice, independence, dignity and wellbeing wherever possible.
Essential / Desirable Requirements
- Female applicants only.
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with additional or complex needs.
- Experience or good understanding of autism and learning disabilities.
- Confidence supporting a non-verbal child and adapting communication to his needs.
- Experience with epilepsy and seizure management is highly desirable, particularly complex epilepsy.
- Confident providing personal care and mealtime support.
- Patient and able to use positive encouragement and consistent approaches.
- Able to follow individual care plans, risk assessments and clinical guidance.
- Good understanding of safeguarding children and young people.
- Reliable and able to provide consistent support across the care package.
- Good written and spoken English with the ability to maintain accurate care records.
- Enhanced DBS, or willingness to complete one.
- Driver preferred, ideally with a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
Mandatory Induction:
In line with our company policy, all new starters are required to attend a mandatory two-day induction programme as part of the onboarding process.
This induction is essential to ensure you are fully prepared, compliant, and confident in your role with KASE Care.
The programme will include:
- Maths/Medication and English assessments
- A presentation on KASE Care, including our company values and CQC regulations and guidelines
- A group exercise
- Collection and verification of onboarding documentation and ID
- Issuing of ID badges and uniforms
- Introduction to the KASE Care management team and an overview of their roles
- Overview of our eLearning and policy platforms (logins will be provided)
- Allocation of access to our Care Planner Platform (used for care notes, medication administration, and call logging)
- A one-hour session with our Safeguarding and Compliance Lead, covering expectations, record keeping, and safeguarding responsibilities
- Face-to-face training in Basic Life Support, First Aid, and Moving & Handling
Attendance at both days of the induction is mandatory and required before you can be onboarded and begin delivering care.
