Job Summary
The Payroll Bureau Assistant will support the smooth, accurate and timely processing of client payrolls within the bureau. The role will involve assisting with regular payroll cycles, maintaining payroll records, responding to client queries and helping ensure payroll work is completed in line with UK payroll legislation, HMRC requirements and internal procedures.
Responsibilities
- Assist with processing weekly, fortnightly, four-weekly and monthly payrolls for a portfolio of clients.
- Input payroll data accurately, including hours, salary changes, overtime, bonuses, deductions, starters and leavers.
- Support Real Time Information submissions and other payroll-related filings as required.
- Assist with auto-enrolment pension administration, including employee assessments, pension uploads and client communications.
- Prepare draft payslips, reports and payroll summaries for review.
- Respond to client and employee payroll queries in a professional and timely manner.
- Maintain accurate payroll records and ensure confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Support year-end payroll processes, including P60s and related administration.
- Liaise with HMRC, pension providers and clients where appropriate.
- Provide general administrative support to the payroll bureau team.
Skills
- Previous payroll, bureau, bookkeeping, accounts or administrative experience is desirable.
- Good numeracy skills and strong attention to detail.
- Confident IT skills, including Microsoft Excel and payroll software; experience with Pay Circle or similar systems would be advantageous.
- Good understanding of confidentiality and data protection when handling payroll information.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to prioritise work, meet deadlines and manage recurring payroll tasks.
- A methodical, organised and accurate approach to work.
- Willingness to learn and keep up to date with payroll processes and UK payroll requirements.

Working Hours
This is a part-time role working three days per week. The exact working days and hours will be agreed with the successful candidate, taking account of business needs and payroll deadlines.
Pay: £28,000.00-£32,000.00 per year
