- Leading the quality, risk and governance of cancer services, ensuring it is reported and represented at the highest level.
- Lead improvements in:
o Cancer Waiting Times
o SACT safety and governance
o MDT quality and decision‑making
- Oversee incident reviews, risk management, audits and quality improvement.
- Providing strategic direction for specialist cancer nursing in the Trust, ensuring compliance with national guidance and the long-term cancer plan strategy, working collaboratively with Care Group Directors of Nursing.
- Lead the Trusts response and actions to the National Cancer Patient E xperience survey and driving continuous improvement.
- Lead responsibility for strategic workforce planning and monitoring of Cancer Nursing Specialist workforce to ensure delivery of national, Cancer Network and local strategies to deliver the national cancer quality measures.
- Lead the development of a public and patient involvement strategy for cancer services.
- To provide strategic leadership for the Trust in working collaboratively with the system including neighbourhood team development to facilitate system working.
- To be a key contributor in the Cancer Services senior leadership team on the journey to become a Centre of Excellence.
- The post holder will work collaboratively with the Cancer Services Team, the Wessex Cancer Alliance, primary and secondary care and the voluntary sector to improve the quality of health provision for patients with cancer and their families.
- The postholder will maximise the contribution that nursing and cancer support services make to Cancer Services, focusing on leadership, accountability, support and supervision ensuring that cancer nursing within UHD is of the highest standard.
- Forming essential communications links with the Group Directors of Nursing for all Care Groups and the wider cancer nursing and AHP workforce.
- The postholder will work to promote the integration of Cancer Services, streamline processes, optimise communication as well as promote service improvement and redesign in line with local and national priorities.
- With support from GDON s, ensure the systems and processes in place comply with legislation and governance requirements.
- To be highly visible , accessible and to have an authoritative nursing presence demonstrating the Trust vision and values in all behaviours.
- To provide Trust wide professional leadership and coordination of all cancer nursing and cancer related AHP services
- To ensure UHD has the right systems and processes in place to ensure compliance with Long Term Plan and the NHS Cancer Programme.
UHD are investing, developing and transforming Trust services in line with the New Hospital Programme. As part of this, some services may move site this year or next, either temporarily or permanently. Recruiting Managers will be happy to answer any service-specific questions at interview.
If a role or service relocates as part of a planned move, excess mileage will not be reimbursed. Travel from home to the new work base will be classed as a normal commute. Any other changes will be managed under Trust or national terms and conditions.
