FIRE AND SECURITY ENGINEER
Location: Central Belt, Scotland
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Working Hours: 38 hours per week
Salary: £39,000–£45,000 per year, dependent on experience
Valley Group is looking for an experienced Fire and Security Engineer to join our Mechanical, Electrical and Compliance division.
The successful candidate will install, commission, service, maintain and diagnose faults on fire and security systems across contracts throughout Scotland’s Central Belt.
We are looking for a competent, customer-focused engineer who can work independently, diagnose faults efficiently and complete all associated documentation to a high standard.
THE ROLE
You will work across domestic, commercial and public-sector properties, ensuring fire and security systems remain safe, compliant and fully operational.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Installing, commissioning, servicing and maintaining fire alarm systems
- Diagnosing and repairing faults on fire and security systems
- Completing planned preventative maintenance and reactive call-outs
- Working on conventional and addressable fire alarm systems
- Testing fire alarm devices, sounders, interfaces and associated equipment
- Inspecting and testing emergency lighting systems where required
- Installing and maintaining CCTV, intruder alarm and access-control systems
- Completing system inspections and identifying remedial requirements
- Carrying out cause-and-effect testing where applicable
- Ensuring work complies with relevant British Standards and manufacturer instructions
- Producing accurate service reports, commissioning records and certification
- Maintaining clear records of faults, repairs and recommendations
- Liaising professionally with clients, building users and other contractors
- Ensuring work is completed safely and in accordance with company procedures
- Maintaining the company vehicle, tools and test equipment
- Participating in the company’s on-call rota
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Demonstrable experience working as a Fire and Security Engineer
- Experience servicing and fault-finding on fire alarm systems
- Knowledge of conventional and addressable fire alarm systems
- Understanding of BS 5839 and applicable fire alarm requirements
- Experience with additional security systems such as CCTV, intruder alarms or access control
- Ability to diagnose technical faults and complete repairs independently
- Ability to complete electronic and written documentation accurately
- Strong customer-service and communication skills
- Ability to organise your own workload across multiple sites
- Full UK driving licence
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS
- Recognised fire alarm, electrical or security-system qualifications
- FIA training or equivalent industry qualifications
- Experience inspecting and testing emergency lighting
- Knowledge of BS 5266, BS 7671 and applicable security-system standards
- ECS, CSCS or equivalent competency card
- Manufacturer-specific system training
- Experience working within social housing, commercial or public-sector contracts
