Step Forward Support is building a dedicated support team for a gentleman who will be moving into his own home in the Nottingham area.
Our service user is a man in his early 40s who is preparing to move into his own home and take an important step towards greater independence. He wants to become more involved in his local community, build confidence, develop everyday living skills and have more choice and control over how he lives his life. He will need a consistent team around him who can take the time to understand him, encourage him to try new things and support him to make progress at his own pace. The right staff will play a big part in helping him build a positive future, while making sure his home feels like exactly that, his home.
This isn’t about simply turning up for a shift.
We are looking for the right people to become an important part of his life, supporting him to settle into his new home, become more independent and, importantly, get back out into his local community and start building the life he wants for himself.
About the role
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a new support team from the very beginning.
You will support someone who is taking a significant step forward towards living more independently in his own home. A major part of the role will be helping him build confidence, develop routines and make the most of the opportunities available to him within the community.
We want his home to feel like his home, not a service.
You could be supporting him to:
· Get out and about within his local community
· Build confidence using local shops, leisure facilities and public transport
· Develop greater independence within his own home
· Make choices about how he spends his time
· Build positive routines and work towards personal goals
· Maintain and develop relationships with the people who are important to him
· Try new activities and experiences
· Develop the skills and confidence to have greater control over his own life
There will be a clear support plan in place, but we also want staff who understand that good support is about the individual, not just following a list of tasks.
The people we are looking for
The personality of the team is going to be really important.
We are looking for people who are positive, patient and encouraging, but who also understand when to step back and allow someone to do things for themselves.
You will need to be someone who can build a genuine professional relationship and who wants to see the person you support progress.

Most importantly, we want people who will believe in what he can achieve.
Building the right team
This will be a carefully planned transition into his new home, and the support team will play a big part in making that transition successful.
You won't be doing this alone.
The team will work alongside experienced management, the individual's Occupational Therapist and other professionals involved in his transition and ongoing support.
Staff will receive training and guidance around the individual's specific support needs, strategies, independence goals and any areas of risk.
Because we are building the team around one person, consistency will be extremely important. We want people who are looking to become part of a stable team and who want to develop alongside the person they support.
