Location: Chelmsford, Essex – CM2 6XW
Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week, or part-time, 20–25 hours per week
Working pattern: Hybrid available
Salary: £20,000–£25,000 full-time equivalent, depending on experience. Part-time salary pro rata.
The Role
Active Mortgages is looking for an experienced, organised and highly self-sufficient person to help keep the day-to-day operation of our mortgage brokerage running smoothly.
This is a hands-on support and coordination role.
You’ll work closely with our self-employed mortgage and protection advisers, helping them stay organised, managing enquiries and leads, keeping on top of outstanding actions and making sure the right things get done at the right time.
You’ll also act as a central point of contact between our advisers, the brokerage, lenders, compliance and other third parties.
There will usually be plenty happening at once.
So if you enjoy being busy, like having a full task list and get satisfaction from organising people, solving problems, chasing things down and getting jobs finished, you’ll probably enjoy this role.
What You’ll Be Doing
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting our self-employed mortgage and protection advisers with their day-to-day requirements.
- Regularly checking in with advisers regarding their pipelines, case flags and outstanding actions.
- Managing incoming mortgage enquiries and allocating leads to the appropriate advisers.
- Monitoring enquiries to make sure they are contacted, followed up and not forgotten.
- Helping advisers identify outstanding opportunities within their pipeline and maximise the value of their client relationships.
- Answering incoming calls and handling general adviser and client enquiries.
- Keeping our CRM and adviser records accurate and up to date.
- Liaising with lenders and completing registration or application forms when advisers need access to new lenders or providers.
- Raising invoices, monitoring payments and assisting with general brokerage administration.
- Working with our compliance support to make sure case checks are submitted when required.
- Monitoring any compliance remedial work and making sure outstanding actions are completed.
- Helping coordinate adviser onboarding and recruitment administration.
- Supporting the organisation of quarterly adviser meetings, training days and events.
- Spotting problems or outstanding actions before they become bigger issues.
- Taking ownership of day-to-day tasks without needing constant direction.
- Continually looking for simple ways to make life easier for our advisers and improve how the brokerage operates.
This is not a mortgage processing role. You won’t be responsible for obtaining client documents, uploading mortgage applications or managing cases from application through to offer.
What We’re Looking For
Mortgage industry experience is important for this role.
You don’t necessarily need to be CeMAP qualified or have worked as an adviser, but you should understand how a mortgage brokerage works and be comfortable dealing with advisers, lenders, compliance, clients and mortgage terminology.
More importantly, you’ll need to be someone who:
- Is extremely organised.
- Can manage lots of small tasks without losing track of them.
- Takes ownership rather than waiting to be told what to do next.
- Is comfortable prioritising their own workload.
- Follows things through until they are finished.
- Communicates confidently with advisers, clients and third parties.
- Is comfortable chasing people when something needs doing.
- Can spot when something has been missed or doesn’t look right.
- Is confident using technology, CRMs and online systems.
- Has strong written and spoken English.
- Understands the importance of confidentiality and working within a regulated environment.
- Enjoys supporting other people and helping them perform at their best.
Our four core values are:
Proactive. Positive. Professional. Personal.
They’re genuinely important to how we work.
The Working Pattern
We’re deliberately flexible about the structure of this role.
It could be full-time at 35 hours per week, or part-time at approximately 20–25 hours per week across the working week.
There may also be an opportunity for hybrid working once you understand the business, systems and team.
We care much more about having the right person who takes ownership of the role than forcing it into a traditional 9–5 structure.
