Payroll Administrator – Maternity Cover

About us
Optimal Accountancy Limited is a growing accountancy practice based in South Shields, providing accounting, taxation, payroll and business support services to a wide range of clients.
Due to maternity leave, we are looking for an experienced Payroll Administrator to join our team and support our expanding payroll function.
The role
We are seeking a payroll professional who can manage payroll processing from start to finish, ensuring our clients receive an accurate, timely and professional service.
This role can be offered on either a part-time or full-time basis, with the potential for a permanent position for the right candidate.
Key responsibilities
· Processing weekly and monthly payrolls for a portfolio of clients
· Managing payroll deadlines and ensuring accurate submissions
· Processing starters, leavers, salary changes and payroll adjustments
· Calculating statutory payments, including SSP
· Managing workplace pension requirements, including NEST pensions
· Handling payroll queries from clients and employees
· Preparing payroll reports and maintaining accurate records
· Ensuring compliance with HMRC requirements and payroll legislation
Skills and experience required
· Previous payroll experience is essential
· Experience using Sage Payroll is essential
· Strong knowledge of SSP and statutory payments
· Experience with NEST pensions and auto-enrolment
· Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
· Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
· Good communication skills with a client-focused approach
