Sr Cloud Solutions is looking for an experienced, high-performing Senior IT Engineer to join our infrastructure and operations team in central London. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining, optimizing, and securing our enterprise IT environment, supporting both on-premises systems and cloud-connected platforms.
Working alongside Security, Systems Engineering, and Service Desk teams, you will tackle Tier 3 technical escalations, lead infrastructure upgrade projects, and implement best practices across modern workspace technologies. This position combines hands-on systems engineering with mentorship, providing guidance to junior engineers while ensuring operational reliability for the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Systems Engineering & Maintenance: Administer, configure, and maintain core enterprise infrastructure, including Windows/Linux servers, virtualized environments (Hyper-V/VMware), and directory services.
- Escalation & Complex Problem Solving: Act as the final escalation point for complex hardware, network, software, and identity access issues, conducting root-cause analysis for high-priority incidents.
- Identity & Access Management (IAM): Manage and secure Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD), Active Directory, SSO, and Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) protocols.
- Network & Security Administration: Configure and support network devices (firewalls, routers, switches, VPNs, VLANs) and enforce endpoint security, data protection, and patch management policies.
- Project Execution & Rollouts: Lead IT infrastructure projects, including server migrations, cloud integrations, system rollouts, and disaster recovery testing.
- Mentorship & Documentation: Review technical work, mentor junior IT engineers, and author comprehensive system documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and user guides.
Skills & QualificationsEssential
- 5+ years of commercial experience in IT systems engineering, senior IT support, or systems administration.
- Strong hands-on experience managing Windows Server and Linux environments.
- Deep proficiency in Microsoft technologies: Active Directory, Group Policy, Microsoft 365 administration, and Microsoft Entra ID.
- Solid networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, VPNs, routing, and firewall administration.
- Experience with virtualization (VMware vSphere, Hyper-V) and cloud-hybrid environments (Azure or AWS).
- Scripting capabilities in PowerShell or Bash for operational automation.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Desirable
- Relevant IT Certifications: Microsoft Certified: Identity and Access Administrator / Enterprise Admin, CompTIA Network+/Security+, Cisco CCNA, or ITIL v4 Foundation.
- Experience with Enterprise Service Management tools: Jira Service Management, ServiceNow, or similar ITSM suites.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks (Cyber Essentials Plus, ISO 27001, GDPR compliance).
- Background in project delivery or team leadership.
