Job Purpose
The Part-Time Night Manager will be responsible for overseeing the smooth, safe and efficient operation of the hotel during night-time hours at both The Edge Hotel, Whitehaven and Hunday Manor Hotel, Workington.
The role will provide flexible management cover across both properties, particularly during managerial holidays, staff absence, busy periods and large events. The Night Manager will act as the senior member of staff on duty overnight, ensuring guests receive a high standard of service while maintaining security, safety and operational standards.
The successful candidate will be confident working independently, making decisions when required and responding appropriately to guest requests, emergencies and operational issues.
Key Responsibilities
Night-Time Hotel Operations
- Take responsibility for the overall operation of the hotel during night shifts.
- Ensure the hotel is secure, safe and appropriately staffed throughout the night.
- Complete regular checks of guest and public areas.
- Monitor hotel entrances, exits and access points.
- Ensure all night-time procedures and company policies are followed.
- Maintain a calm and professional environment for guests and colleagues.
- Ensure all relevant end-of-day and night audit procedures are completed accurately.
- Monitor bookings, arrivals, departures and any outstanding guest requirements.
- Deal with late arrivals and guest enquiries professionally.
Guest Service
- Provide a welcoming and professional service to guests throughout the night.
- Handle guest requests, complaints and concerns promptly and appropriately.
- Resolve issues wherever possible and escalate matters to senior management when required.
- Assist guests with emergency situations or out-of-hours requirements.
- Maintain excellent customer service standards at all times.
Events & Busy Periods
- Provide additional management support during large events, weddings, functions and busy hotel periods.
- Assist with the smooth running of events during evening and night-time hours.
- Monitor guest behaviour and ensure venue policies are followed.
- Liaise with event, bar, kitchen and front-of-house teams as required.
- Deal confidently with challenging situations and escalate serious incidents appropriately.
- Support the wider management team before, during and after major events.
Holiday & Management Cover
- Provide flexible cover for management holidays, sickness and other planned or unplanned absences.
- Work across both The Edge Hotel and Hunday Manor Hotel, depending on operational requirements.
- Support the wider management team and ensure continuity of service when regular managers are unavailable.
- Ensure important information is accurately communicated to the incoming management team.
Health, Safety & Security
- Ensure the safety and wellbeing of guests, visitors and employees during the night.
- Follow all company health and safety procedures.
- Respond appropriately to fire alarms, emergencies and other incidents.
- Complete required security and safety checks.
- Record and report accidents, incidents, maintenance issues and other concerns.
- Ensure emergency procedures are followed correctly.
- Monitor and address any inappropriate or unsafe guest behaviour.
Team Management
- Supervise and support night staff as required.
- Allocate tasks and ensure duties are completed to the required standard.
- Provide guidance and assistance to team members.
- Address minor performance or operational issues appropriately and report significant concerns to senior management.
- Lead by example and maintain professional standards throughout the shift.
Administration & Communication
- Complete accurate night reports and handover information.
- Record guest complaints, incidents, maintenance issues and other relevant information.
- Communicate important overnight issues to the General Manager or relevant management team.
- Ensure all relevant paperwork and operational records are completed.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding guests, employees and company information.
Person Specification
Essential
- Previous experience in a hotel, hospitality or customer-facing management/supervisory role.
- Experience of working night shifts or managing late-night operations.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and make appropriate decisions.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Reliable, responsible and trustworthy.
- Good understanding of health, safety and security procedures.
- Flexible approach to working across two hotel locations.
- Professional attitude and appearance.
Desirable
- Previous experience as a Night Manager, Duty Manager, Supervisor or similar role.
- Experience working in hotels with events, weddings or functions.
- Experience dealing with emergency situations.
- Knowledge of hotel booking and property management systems.
- Previous experience managing or supervising a team.
- First Aid or relevant hospitality qualifications.

Working Requirements
Due to the nature of the role, the Night Manager must be willing to work a flexible part-time schedule, including:
- Night shifts
