We are now looking for an experienced Transport & Logistics Manager to join our team at our Birmingham site.
About the Role
Reporting to the General Manager, you will lead and manage the organisation's transport and logistics operations, ensuring the safe, efficient, compliant, and cost-effective movement of products to customers.
This is a key leadership role responsible for managing transport planning, fleet operations, warehouse and logistics teams, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives. You'll ensure customer deliveries are completed on time while driving operational excellence, controlling costs, and maintaining the highest standards of safety and compliance.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Leading the day-to-day transport and logistics operation to deliver outstanding customer service.
- Planning and optimising transport routes, schedules, and resources to maximise efficiency.
- Managing, coaching, and developing transport, warehouse, and logistics teams.
- Ensuring compliance with Operator Licence requirements, DVSA regulations, Working Time Regulations, and company policies.
- Monitoring vehicle utilisation, fleet performance, transport costs, and fuel efficiency.
- Overseeing fleet maintenance schedules and vehicle compliance.
- Managing driver hours, tachograph records, and driver performance.
- Producing and analysing operational KPI reports and management information.
- Managing departmental budgets and identifying opportunities for cost savings.
- Investigating incidents, accidents, and service failures, implementing corrective actions where required.
- Building strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and third-party logistics providers.
- Driving continuous improvement initiatives across transport and logistics operations.
- Ensuring all activities are carried out in line with health and safety legislation and company procedures.
- Supporting recruitment, onboarding, training, and performance management activities.
About You
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has proven experience managing transport and logistics operations within a distribution, manufacturing, retail, or 3PL environment.
- Holds an International CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) in Road Haulage Operations.
- Has experience leading transport teams, fleet operations, and warehouse functions.
- Possesses strong knowledge of UK transport legislation and compliance requirements.
- Is an effective leader with a proven track record of developing high-performing teams.
- Demonstrates excellent planning, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
- Has experience using Transport Management Systems (TMS) and logistics reporting tools.
- Is commercially aware with strong budget management and cost-control experience.
- Is highly proficient in Microsoft Excel and data analysis.
- Can confidently build relationships with customers, suppliers, and external partners.
- Thrives in a fast-paced operational environment and can make sound decisions under pressure.
