The Role
The Group People Manager is responsible for leading the People function across the Harmony Group in the UK, ensuring the organisation attracts, develops and retains exceptional people whilst fostering a positive, compliant and high-performing culture.
Reporting to the Executive Leadership Team, the role provides strategic and operational leadership across all aspects of Human Resources, including employee relations, organisational development, talent acquisition, learning and development, performance management and employee engagement.
In addition to leading the People function, the Group People Manager has overall responsibility for the Corporate Administration and Health & Safety functions, ensuring the Group maintains efficient administrative operations, safe working environments and full compliance with all statutory and regulatory requirements. Whilst these functions form part of the role’s remit, the primary focus is to develop and deliver the Group’s People Strategy, supporting operational excellence and sustainable business growth across the Harmony Group.
Key Responsibilities
People
- Lead and develop the Group’s People Strategy, ensuring alignment with the organisation’s vision, values and business objectives.
- Act as the principal advisor to the Executive Leadership Team and senior managers on all people-related matters.
- Ensure compliance with UK employment legislation and HR best practice across the Group.
- Develop, implement and continuously review Group people policies, procedures and governance frameworks.
- Lead workforce planning, recruitment, succession planning and organisational development initiatives.
- Drive employee engagement, wellbeing and retention strategies that support a positive, inclusive and high-performing culture.
- Oversee performance management, appraisal processes and talent development programmes.
- Manage complex employee relations matters, including disciplinary, grievance, capability and organisational change processes.
- Lead learning and development initiatives to build leadership capability and organisational effectiveness.
- Produce people metrics, workforce analysis and management reports to support informed business decisions.
- Ensure accurate and confidential management of employee records and HR systems.
Corporate Administration
- Provide leadership and oversight of the Corporate Administration function across the Group.
- Ensure efficient delivery of administrative support, office management and corporate services.
- Oversee facilities management, company travel, accommodation, office supplies and business support activities.
- Maintain supplier agreements, insurance records, licences and administrative contracts.
- Standardise administrative processes and controls across all Group locations.
- Support business continuity planning and corporate governance requirements.
Health & Safety
- Provide strategic oversight of the Group’s Health & Safety function.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable health and safety legislation and industry standards.
- Support the development and implementation of Group health and safety policies, procedures and safe systems of work.
- Review health and safety performance, audits, inspections and incident investigations, ensuring appropriate corrective actions are implemented.
- Promote a proactive safety culture through leadership, communication and continuous improvement.
- Ensure managers understand and fulfil their health and safety responsibilities across all locations.
Leadership & Governance
- Lead, coach and develop the People, Corporate Administration and Health & Safety functions.
- Prepare departmental budgets, workforce plans and annual objectives.
- Develop meaningful KPI dashboards and management reports for the Executive Leadership Team.
- Identify organisational, operational and compliance risks, implementing practical and commercially focused improvements.
- Build strong relationships with operational leaders across the business to support organisational performance.
- Champion the Harmony Group values, promoting an inclusive, ethical and collaborative working environment.
- Drive continuous improvement across all areas of responsibility.
Requirement
- Significant Human Resources leadership experience within a multi-site organisation, preferably within the automotive retail or wider automotive sector.
- Strong knowledge of UK employment legislation and HR best practice.
- Proven experience leading organisational change, employee engagement and people development initiatives.
- Experience supporting multiple operational locations.
- Previous responsibility for Corporate Administration, Facilities or Business Support functions is advantageous.
- Experience overseeing or working alongside Health & Safety functions is desirable.
- CIPD Level 5 or Level 7 qualification (or equivalent) is preferred.
- NEBOSH, IOSH or equivalent Health & Safety qualification is desirable.
- Full UK driving licence with willingness to travel across Group locations.
