We are seeking to appoint a Pastoral Assistant to work in our Boarding department starting Monday 17 August 2026. The successful applicant will support our boarders and participate in the running of the boarding houses in accordance with the National Minimum Standards for Boarding Schools, with support from the Houseparent and Senior Houseparent.
Working 40 hours per week on a flexible rota that includes evenings and weekends, you will be deeply involved in the daily lives of our students - guiding morning and evening routines, supporting academic study and extracurricular activities, monitoring student wellbeing, and fostering a safe, inclusive "home away from home" where boarders can thrive. Rochester Independent College was founded as a sixth form college in 1984 and offers a fresh alternative to traditional independent education. There is no uniform and students and teachers are on first name terms. Today, Rochester Independent College (RIC) has 425 students from the age of 11 and offers places for 185 boarders from the age of 13.
Classes are small. On average there are 8 students in each group. As well as a full secondary education from year 7 to sixth form, the College specialises in intensive one year A level and GCSE courses. We also have a good track record of excellent results on retake A level and GCSE courses for students aiming at competitive university courses including Medicine, Law, Veterinary Science and Dentistry.
