About the Role:
Edifice Automation and Smart Systems is looking for an Automation Project Engineer to join our Edinburgh team. You will support the design, coordination and delivery of automation projects involving control systems, industrial equipment and smart building technologies.
This role is suited to an experienced engineer who can combine technical knowledge with organised project delivery. You will work with controls engineers, electrical specialists, software teams, contractors and customers to help ensure automation systems are designed, installed, tested and commissioned successfully.

Key Responsibilities:
Project Coordination:
Coordinate engineering activities, project schedules, technical requirements and delivery milestones for assigned automation projects.
Automation Design:
Support the development and review of control system designs, technical specifications and automation architecture.
PLC Systems:
Assist with PLC configuration, programming requirements and system integration activities.
SCADA Support:
Support the setup, testing and integration of SCADA or monitoring systems used within automation projects.
Technical Documentation:
Prepare and maintain project specifications, drawings, test records, equipment schedules and engineering documentation.
Supplier Coordination:
Work with equipment suppliers and contractors to confirm technical requirements, delivery dates and installation needs.
Installation Support:
Provide technical support during installation and help resolve site based engineering issues.
Testing:
Coordinate functional testing and verify that automation systems operate according to agreed requirements.
Commissioning:
Support commissioning activities and help confirm that equipment, controls and communication systems perform reliably.
Risk Management:
Identify technical or delivery risks early and work with the project team to develop practical solutions.
Customer Communication:
Provide clear technical updates and respond to project related questions from customers and stakeholders.
Project Handover:
Ensure final documentation, test results and system information are complete before project handover.
What We Are Looking For:
Experience:
Several years of professional experience in automation engineering, control systems, project engineering or a related technical role.
Automation Knowledge:
Good understanding of PLC systems, control panels, sensors, industrial networks and automated equipment.
Project Experience:
Experience coordinating technical work, suppliers, installation activities and engineering deadlines.
Electrical Knowledge:
Understanding of electrical control systems, wiring diagrams and basic industrial electrical principles.
Systems Integration:
Experience working with connected equipment, control systems or building automation technologies is desirable.
Technical Software:
Comfortable using engineering software, project tools, spreadsheets and technical documentation systems.
Problem Solving:
Ability to investigate technical issues, assess possible causes and coordinate practical solutions.
Communication:
Strong spoken and written English with the ability to explain technical requirements clearly to colleagues, customers and contractors.
Organisation:
Ability to manage several project tasks, maintain accurate records and meet agreed delivery deadlines.
Mindset:
You are organised, technically capable and solution focused. You take ownership of project issues, communicate risks early and work closely with engineering teams to keep automation projects moving safely and efficiently.
Pay: £4,200.00-£5,000.00 per month
