- Salary: £15- £17 per hour with 15% shift allowance
- Shifts: 12 hour days/nights (5 on, 5 off, 4 on, 4 off)

Job purpose:
The Fitter’s Mate supports Mechanical Fitters and wider maintenance trades in delivering safe, efficient, and high quality maintenance work across the processing facility. The role assists with tools, materials, basic mechanical tasks, and safe work preparation, helping ensure plant reliability and smooth execution of maintenance activities.
Responsibilities:
- Support fitters during maintenance, repairs, and installations on plant equipment.
- Carry out simple tasks such as loosening/fastening fixings, cleaning components, removing guards, and preparing work areas.
- Safely handle, transport, and organise tools and equipment required for maintenance jobs.
- Collect parts, consumables, and materials from stores and ensure they are ready for use.
- Maintain clean, tidy, and safe work areas before, during, and after tasks.
- Follow all site safety procedures, including isolations, permits, and PPE requirements.
- Identify hazards, follow risk assessments, and escalate unsafe conditions.
- Assist with lifting, moving, and positioning equipment safely.
- Work in line with PUWER, LOLER, and general site safety rules.
- Support maintenance on conveyors, pumps, screens, crushers, and other plant assets.
- Assist with greasing, oil checks, and basic lubrication routines under supervision.
- Clean down equipment, parts, and work areas to support maintenance quality.
- Work closely with mechanical fitters, electricians, and C&I technicians as required.
- Provide accurate updates to supervisors and fitters on task progress.
- Contribute to handovers to ensure continuity between shifts.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience in an industrial, construction, or maintenance environment (preferred).
- Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn trade skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and work safely in a heavy industrial setting.
- Full UK driving licence (advantageous).
- Relevant training (manual handling, working at height, confined space) beneficial but not essential.
