Job Overview
The Chilled Buyer is responsible for sourcing and purchasing chilled products that meet the company’s quality, availability, cost, and commercial requirements. The role involves managing supplier relationships, negotiating competitive prices and terms, monitoring market trends, and ensuring the right products are available at the right time and in the right quantities.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
Raising purchase orders (Pos)
- Create and manage purchase orders for chilled products, ensuring stock arrives on time and in the correct quantities.
Supplier Communication
- Speak regularly with suppliers regarding pricing, availability, promotions, shortages, deliveries and product issues.
Stock Management
- Speak regularly with suppliers regarding pricing, availability, promotions, shortages, deliveries and product issues.
Warehouse Liaison
- Speak regularly with suppliers regarding pricing, availability, promotions, shortages, deliveries and product issues.
Sales Team communication
- Speak regularly with suppliers regarding pricing, availability, promotions, shortages, deliveries and product issues.
Forecasting
- Use sales history and customer demand to plan future purchases and ensure continuity of supply.
Problem Solving
- Quickly deal with supply issues, delivery delays, shortages and quality concerns.

- Good organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
- Strong attention to detail, particularly when raising and checking Purchase Orders (POs), pricing and stock information.
- Ability to work well under pressure and respond quickly to supply, delivery and stock issues.
- Good numerical and commercial awareness.
- Ability to build positive working relationships with internal teams and external suppliers.
- Comfortable using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and learning internal purchasing & stock management systems.
- Previous experience within supply chain, purchasing or buying.
- Experience managing stock levels, forecasting or raising Purchase Orders (POs).
- A proactive approach with good problem-solving skills.
