SJA Family Sports and Mentoring is a youth, sports and community-focused organisation committed to creating positive opportunities for children and young people.
We deliver high-quality sports coaching, mentoring, personal development and positive activity programmes that help young people build confidence, resilience, self-belief and healthier futures.
Our work supports young people from a wide range of backgrounds, including those who may be experiencing barriers linked to education, SEND, emotional wellbeing, behaviour, confidence, social isolation or exclusion.
Through trusted relationships, sport and meaningful engagement, we help young people feel seen, supported and capable of achieving more.
We believe sport, mentoring and positive role models can change lives.
SJA Family Sports and Mentoring is proud to have worked within schools and local communities for nearly **30 years**, making us **one of the longest-standing youth, sports and mentoring organisations within Croydon and the surrounding community**. We are incredibly proud of the children and young people we have supported, mentored, coached and helped to grow over the years.
## The Opportunity
We are looking for passionate, reliable and committed **Youth Mentors and Sports Activities Coaches** to join our growing team.
This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who wants to make a genuine difference in the lives of young people. You will use sport, mentoring, creative activities and positive engagement to support young people to develop confidence, improve behaviour, build social skills and take positive steps forward.
Depending on experience, qualifications, strengths and personal qualities, applicants may be considered for a **dual role** combining both **Youth Mentoring** and **Sports Coaching** responsibilities.
We currently have sessions planned from **12:00pm to 4:30pm**, starting in **September**. We also deliver selected sessions, clubs and additional programmes, including breakfast clubs, lunchtime activities, PE support, after-school clubs and late clubs. These opportunities are expected to continue growing over time.
This role would suit someone with experience in youth work, sports coaching, mentoring, education, SEND, behaviour support, community work, performing arts, health and wellbeing, or social care. However, we also welcome applicants who may not yet have formal experience or qualifications but have the right attitude, character and willingness to learn.
## Dual Role Opportunities
For suitable applicants, there may be opportunities to work across a **dual role** that combines both mentoring and sports coaching.
This means the role may involve a mixture of direct mentoring support, structured sports coaching, school-based work and wider positive activity delivery across **Croydon, Bromley and surrounding South London areas**.
Depending on experience, strengths and the needs of each setting, this could include:
* 1:1 mentoring with young people in schools
* Small group mentoring and targeted intervention work
* Directed work through schools, community settings or partner organisations
* PE support and sports coaching sessions
* Lunchtime clubs and structured lunchtime activities
* Breakfast clubs
* After-school clubs
* Late clubs and extended activity sessions
* Holiday, enrichment or selected community sessions where available
This variety is what makes the role meaningful. Some sessions may focus more on mentoring, emotional support, confidence building and behaviour, while others may focus on sport, teamwork, discipline, fitness and positive activity.
We are looking for people who can bring both sides together — using sport as a tool to build trust, support young people and create positive change.
The role will continue to grow over time as new schools, clubs and community opportunities develop.
