Job summary
The Consultant Clinical Practitioner (CCP) is a key corporate leadership role. Working alongside the Clinical Director, Operational Director, Head of Quality and Professional Leads, the post holder will provide visible and inspirational leadership, connecting patients, staff and partners with the vision and values of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (HIOW).
The CCP will act as the strategic clinical lead for the development, mobilisation and implementation of the jointly commissioned Experts at Hand Service across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. The service supports delivery of the Government's SEND reforms outlined in the Schools White Paper, Every Child Achieving and Thriving (DfE, 2026), and will operate through joint health and education commissioning, delivery and accountability arrangements.
The service will support school-aged children across the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Integrated Care System. The post holder will provide clinical and professional leadership for a system-wide workforce, enabling the delivery of high-quality universal, targeted and targeted-plus support within education settings. They will lead the mapping and integration of local pathways, support the development of communication public health strategies, and ensure consistent, evidence-based practice is established across the system. Given the scale and complexity of implementation, the role requires senior strategic leadership and advanced clinical expertise.

Main duties, tasks & skills required
Facilitate the building of close working relationships with strategic leads for Education and SEND across all four local authorities.
Lead and mobilise the Expert and Hand Service across HIOWH system liaising with the relevant stakeholders within the system.
Work across the four pillars of consultant practice. Specifically, the postholder will have substantial time planned for consultancy across the Hampshire and Isle of Wight integrated care system.
Provide advanced and expert level of clinical practice supporting comprehensive assessments, clinical consultancy, case management, treatment and education.
Undertake professional and service leadership, consultancy and strategic whole system work alongside partnership agencies.
Lead on the development of educational forums, developing and delivering competency frameworks within the service line, speciality area and HIOWH.
Lead on growing a culture of embedding evidence-based practise, clinical research, supporting a research portfolio for studies within the service line, linking with relevant stakeholders and acting as a Principal Investigator in fields relevant to their clinical practice.
Work within the fifth pillar of advanced practice, 'Strategic function' for consultant practitioners. Establishing expertise across the system by using consultancy approaches and opportunities that have maximum impact on practice, services, communities and populations, and which add to and sustain workforce capacity and capability.

Recognised Speech and Language Therapy degree level qualification or equivalent.
Registered member of the Health and Care Professions Council.
