Duties
- Collect, sort, and load waste materials using appropriate equipment and techniques
- Operate machinery such as compactors, balers, or forklifts with mechanical knowledge to handle various waste streams safely
- Perform heavy lifting tasks regularly to move waste containers or bags efficiently and safely
- Ensure all waste is stored and disposed of in accordance with environmental regulations and company policies
- Maintain cleanliness of work areas, including sorting stations and disposal zones
- Conduct routine inspections of equipment and report any maintenance needs promptly
- Follow health and safety protocols diligently to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment
Requirements
- Mechanical knowledge or experience with waste handling machinery is highly desirable
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and consistently throughout shifts
- Physical stamina to stand, walk, bend, and lift for extended periods
- Strong attention to safety procedures and environmental standards
- Good communication skills to work effectively within a team
- Prior experience in waste management or similar manual roles is a plus but not essential
- Willingness to learn new skills related to waste processing and safety protocols
We are currently looking to fulfil a new position that has became available within the company for a Driver/Waste Operative.
The successful candidate would be required to work 5 days a week including weekends totalling 30 Hours per week hours per week.
Normal shift pattern starts from 5:30am till 12:30pm although this may change depending on workload. Weekends typically start from 5:30 am until 9:00 am.
The successful applicant will be required to hold a full clean UK driving licence for a vehicle up to 3.5 tonne, and have held their licence for 2 years or more (for insurance purposes).
The role will involve the following tasks:
- work to daily job sheet
- carrying out daily checks to vehicle
- loading/unloading waste
- working to a time scale and visiting a number of different business uplifting waste & recycling material.
- working in the warehouse with tasks such as cardboard bailing, recycling processing and general maintenance activities
Successful candidate will preferably have a good knowledge of Glasgow and surrounding areas. Also some waste management experience would be preferred but not essential as full training will be given.
