We’re Looking for a Management Accountant
The Great British Confectionery Group, bringing together much-loved UK brands including Montezuma’s Chocolates and Bristows of Devon, is looking for an experienced and capable Management Accountant to join our Finance team.
This is an important role within the business and we are looking for someone who is confident working with financial information, can produce accurate, detailed and timely financial reporting, understands the importance of strong systems and processes, and is comfortable working at pace in a busy and growing business.
You will play a key role in providing reliable financial information to support decision-making, while ensuring that financial controls, processes and reporting standards are consistently maintained.
About the Role
As Management Accountant, you will take responsibility for a broad range of management accounting activities, working closely with the Finance Manager and wider business.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Preparing accurate and timely monthly management accounts, including P&L, balance sheet and cash flow reporting.
- Producing detailed financial reports and analysis to support management decision-making.
- Carrying out cost, margin and variance analysis, investigating movements and clearly explaining the underlying reasons.
- Supporting budgeting, forecasting and financial planning activities.
- Managing and maintaining accurate financial information across relevant systems.
- Ensuring financial processes, procedures and internal controls are followed consistently and effectively.
- Reviewing financial information for accuracy, identifying discrepancies and resolving issues promptly.
- Supporting effective cost control and identifying opportunities to improve financial efficiency.
- Contributing to the development, improvement and implementation of financial processes and controls.
- Supporting year-end accounts preparation and external audit requirements.
- Working with colleagues across the business to obtain, understand and challenge financial information where appropriate.
- Providing clear and commercially relevant financial information to managers and stakeholders.
- Assisting with finance projects, systems improvements and other ad-hoc activities as required.
The Person We’re Looking For
We are looking for someone who has hands-on experience of managing financial information and producing management information, rather than someone looking purely for their first opportunity in finance.
You will ideally:
- Have experience in a management accounting or similar finance role.
- Have a strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Be confident preparing and interpreting management accounts and financial information.
- Have excellent attention to detail and a methodical, analytical approach.
- Be able to work quickly and accurately, particularly when working to tight reporting deadlines.
- Understand how good financial systems, processes and controls support accurate reporting.
- Be confident working with accounting/ERP systems and have strong Excel skills.
- Be comfortable investigating financial information, identifying issues and finding solutions.
- Be able to communicate financial information clearly to both Finance and non-Finance colleagues.
- Be highly organised and able to manage multiple priorities in a busy environment.
- Take ownership of your work and see tasks through to completion.
- Be proactive, dependable and comfortable working independently when required.
- Have the confidence to question information where something doesn't look right.
- Take pride in producing work that is accurate, complete and delivered on time.
- Understand the importance of doing things correctly, consistently and ethically — even when nobody is checking.
A degree in Accounting, Finance or a related subject, or an equivalent qualification/level of experience, would be advantageous. Professional accounting qualifications or part-qualification would also be welcomed.
Who Will Thrive in This Role?
This role will suit someone who enjoys numbers, accuracy, structure and getting things done.
We are looking for someone who is naturally organised, commercially aware and comfortable dealing with detailed financial information. You should be someone who can work at pace without compromising accuracy, manage competing priorities and remain focused when deadlines are tight.
You will need to be confident working within established processes and controls, but also have the initiative to identify when something could be done better.
If you are the type of person who checks the detail, asks questions when the numbers don't look right, keeps financial information well organised and takes ownership of delivering accurate reports on time, you could be a great fit for this role.
