About the role: SEND Job Coach - Supported Internship Programme
Activate Learning is seeking a dedicated, organised, and learner-focused Job Coach (SEND) to join our team at Reading College and help launch our new Supported Internship Programme (SIP) for the 2026/27 academic year.
This role is central to supporting SEND learners aged 16-25, each of whom holds an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), to develop employability skills and access meaningful, well-matched work experience aligned with their individual strengths, needs, and career aspirations.
Working closely with teaching staff, support teams, and employers, you will support learners throughout the entire placement journey - from preparation and placement set-up to on-site support, progress monitoring, and review. Acting as the key liaison between learners, employers, and the college, your work will help learners build confidence, independence, and real-world skills, supporting successful transitions into adulthood and sustained employment.
As a Job Coach, you'll play a vital role in helping students develop key employability skills through dedicated 1:1 coaching during employer-based work placements. Working closely with the Work Experience Coordinator, you'll ensure the smooth daily operation of these placements. Flexibility is key, as you may be required to support across multiple work experience placements at different employer sites.
In addition to delivering practical coaching, you will monitor student progress, assess performance, and guide learners in achieving their individual goals and learning outcomes.
We have two permanent, full-time roles available, each working 37 hours per week during term-time only (0.84 FTE), based at our Reading College campus.
What do you need to be a successful SEND Job Coach at Activate Learning?
To thrive in this role, you will have:
-
Extensive experience working with young people with SEND in educational or training settings.
-
The ability to break down tasks and provide clear, structured instructions to support learner understanding.
-
Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive, collaborative relationships with students, colleagues, employers, and external partners.
-
A full driving licence and the ability to drive - essential, as placements are offsite and regular travel between employer sites is required.
-
Experience in a Further Education (FE) environment (desirable, though not essential).
