About Us
Prolight Direct Ltd is a leading UK supplier of professional Film and TV continuous lighting equipment for studios and locations. We stock world-renowned brands including Nanlux, Nanlite, FXLion, The Lightbridge, Honeycrates and Pess Energy, and we run a dedicated Repairs & Info Centre supporting customers across the film and broadcast industry. Our reputation is built on quality equipment, expert knowledge and fast, dependable service.
The Role
We're looking for a skilled, self-sufficient engineer who knows LED lighting inside out to run our repairs operation at our warehouse in Rickmansworth (Unit 4, Woodcock Hill Estate, Harefield Road, WD3 1PQ). Professional LED fixtures are the core of our business, and they'll be the core of this role: warranty work, routine servicing and general repairs on high-end LED COB fixtures, panels and tube lights from Nanlux and Nanlite, plus the batteries and accessories that power them on set. You'll also own the spare parts side of the business — administering spare parts sales and maintaining a very well-organised parts store. It's a varied, hands-on role at the technical heart of the company.
Key Responsibilities
LED lighting service & repairs:
- Diagnose, repair and test professional LED lighting fixtures — COB spotlights, LED panels, tube lights, LED drivers, control units, batteries, chargers and accessories
- Fault-find LED-specific issues: driver and PSU failures, LED module/chip faults, flicker, colour accuracy and dimming problems, control and connectivity faults (DMX, wireless, app control)
- Carry out warranty repairs in line with manufacturer procedures, and manage warranty claims with suppliers such as Nanlux/Nanlite and FXLion
- Perform routine servicing of LED fixtures — cleaning, thermal/fan checks, firmware updates, safety checks (including PAT testing) and pre-despatch quality checks
- Book in repair jobs, assess and quote for non-warranty work, and keep customers updated on progress
- Maintain clear, accurate service records and job histories for every repair
- Liaise with manufacturers for technical support, firmware updates and repair documentation
Spare parts sales & parts store:
- Run and administer spare parts sales: handle enquiries, provide quotes, process orders and arrange despatch
- Source parts from manufacturers and suppliers, raising purchase orders and tracking deliveries
- Build and maintain a very well-organised parts store — clearly labelled, logically laid out, with accurate stock records
- Set and monitor minimum stock levels for common parts so repairs are never held up
- Conduct regular stock counts and keep the parts inventory system up to date
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience repairing LED lighting equipment — film/TV, stage, broadcast, entertainment or architectural — or closely related electronics
- Solid understanding of LED technology: drivers, PSUs, thermal management, dimming, colour temperature and CRI/colour accuracy
- Confident with fault-finding to component or module level, soldering, and reading circuit diagrams
- Familiarity with lighting control (DMX, wireless protocols, app-based control) and lithium-ion battery systems a strong advantage
- Organised and methodical — able to run a busy repairs bench and a tidy parts store single-handedly
- Comfortable with administration: job tracking, quotes, invoicing, stock records and supplier orders
- Good customer communication skills, by phone and email
- Self-motivated and able to manage your own workload and priorities
- PAT testing qualification and knowledge of lithium battery handling/shipping regulations an advantage but not essential
- Living within a 30-45 minute commute of our Rickmansworth warehouse (WD3 1PQ) would be ideal
What We Offer
- £40,000 + per year, depending on experience
- Full-time, Monday to Friday — no weekend shifts
- 28 days holiday including bank holidays
- Company pension
- Staff discount on professional lighting equipment
- Manufacturer training on leading brands including Nanlux, Nanlite and FXLion
- A friendly, close-knit team in a growing business at the heart of the UK film & TV industry
