Experienced Café & Play Centre Assistant

We are looking for an experienced, hardworking and friendly Café & Play Centre Assistant to join our busy children’s soft play centre.
Previous experience in a café, coffee shop, pub, restaurant, takeaway/chip shop or similar food-service environment is ESSENTIAL.
Please only apply if you have relevant experience and are genuinely happy to undertake regular cleaning as a major part of your role.
This is not simply a job serving behind a café counter. Everyone in our team is expected to get involved in keeping the entire centre clean, safe and welcoming for our customers.
The Role
You will be working in a busy, family-focused environment, so we need someone who is confident, approachable and genuinely friendly with both adults and children.
Your duties will include:
- Taking food and drink orders
- Preparing and serving teas, coffees and cold drinks
- Providing friendly and efficient customer service
- Operating the till and handling payments
- Assisting with food service and basic food preparation
- Keeping the café counter clean and organised
- Clearing and thoroughly cleaning tables
- Sweeping and mopping floors
- Cleaning customer and play-centre areas throughout the day
- Cleaning café equipment and work areas
- Carrying out regular hygiene and cleaning checks
- Completing thorough end-of-day/nightly cleaning
- Helping maintain high standards of cleanliness throughout the entire soft play centre
- Setting up, clearing and cleaning party areas
- Hosting children’s birthday parties and helping ensure they run smoothly
- Welcoming party guests and assisting parents and children
- Helping customers with general enquiries
- Supporting the rest of the team wherever required
CLEANING IS A MAJOR PART OF THIS POSITION
Because we operate a busy children’s soft play centre, cleanliness and hygiene are extremely important to us.
We need someone who takes pride in cleanliness and doesn’t need to be repeatedly asked to clean.
If you see a dirty table, something on the floor, an area that needs wiping down or something that needs tidying, we expect you to use your initiative and deal with it.
All team members are responsible for cleaning throughout their shift, as well as completing end-of-day cleaning duties.
If you are looking for a position that only involves serving customers or working behind a counter, this role will not be suitable for you.
Previous Experience Is Essential
You must have previous experience working in a busy customer-facing food or hospitality environment, such as:
- Café or coffee shop
- Pub
- Restaurant
- Takeaway or chip shop
- Food counter
- Similar hospitality or food-service environment
Full training will be provided on our own procedures, but applicants must already understand the basics of working in a busy food-service and customer-facing environment.

Our busiest periods include weekends, school holidays and children’s parties, so applicants should be prepared to work during busy periods as required.
Important
This is a varied, hands-on position. We are looking for someone who understands that working in a children’s soft play centre means everyone helps with everything.
Customer service, café duties, party hosting, cleaning and maintaining the centre are all part of the job.
Please do not apply if you do not have previous relevant food-service/hospitality experience or if you are not comfortable carrying out regular and thorough cleaning duties.
Pay: £12.71-£13.00 per hour
