We have an exciting opportunity for a Maintenance Manager Street Lighting to join our Highways Services team. This is a key leadership role responsible for managing the delivery of street lighting maintenance and construction activities across County Durham, ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, on time, and within budget.
WHAT IS INVOLVED?
As Street Lighting Maintenance Manager, you will lead and support operational teams delivering a wide range of street lighting projects and maintenance programmes across the county. You will play a vital role in ensuring the safety of employees, contractors, road users and the wider public, whilst driving high standards of service delivery and performance.
You will be responsible for:
- Managing and developing operational street lighting teams.
- Planning, programming and delivering maintenance and construction works.
- Ensuring compliance with relevant health and safety legislation, electrical regulations and council procedures.
- Managing projects from conception through to completion, including financial monitoring and reporting.
- Preparing and approving job packs, permits, RAMS and traffic management requirements.
- Monitoring contractor performance and providing technical guidance where required.
- Supporting recruitment, workforce development and apprentice mentoring.
- Participating in the out-of-hours management rota.We are looking for a motivated and experienced manager who can demonstrate:
- Significant experience in street lighting maintenance and construction operations.
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Sound knowledge of electrical inspection and testing requirements and relevant legislation.
- Experience of managing budgets, resources and project delivery.
- Excellent communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
- A commitment to promoting a positive health and safety culture and delivering excellent customer service.

WHAT WILL I NEED?
- City and Guilds 2330 Electrical Qualification (or equivalent).
- City and Guilds 2391 Inspection and Testing.
- BS 7671 Wiring Regulations.
- Recognised electrical qualification.
- HNC Level 4 in a relevant discipline.
- NVQ Level 3 Site Supervision.
If successful, you will be required to undertake and pass an in-house driving assessment as part of our pre-employment checks before any offer of appointment can be confirmed.
