Job Overview
Join Scentâme as a Perfume Workshop Assistant / Host, helping us deliver engaging, memorable perfume-making experiences for our guests.
Scentâme is a small and growing fragrance company specialising in personalised perfume creation and immersive perfume-making workshops. We are looking for someone who combines confidence, warmth, curiosity and organisation with the ability to learn quickly and take responsibility.
You will guide guests through the perfume-making process, help them explore their scent preferences and create an enjoyable environment where people feel comfortable experimenting and being creative.
Our workshops range from small, intimate sessions to large group experiences, so you should be equally comfortable creating a personal connection with a handful of guests and confidently commanding a busy room.
This is not just a hosting role. You will also take responsibility for making sure workshops are properly prepared, materials are stocked, the studio is organised and guests receive a consistently high-quality Scentâme experience.
You do not need to be a trained perfumer when you join us. We will train you in our workshop format and materials. However, you must be a quick learner. We expect the right person to progress towards independently running standard workshops within their first few weeks.
The position begins part-time and hourly, with the opportunity to take on more responsibility and potentially grow into a full-time salaried role as Scentâme develops.
Pay & ProgressionTraining — £17 per hour
During training, you will learn our workshop structure, guest journey, fragrance palette, setup procedures and hosting standards.
Training will be practical and fast-paced, and you will begin taking responsibility for sections of workshops as your confidence develops.
Independent Workshop Host — £20 per hour
Once you have demonstrated that you can confidently prepare for, host and close down a standard Scentâme workshop independently, you will progress to £20 per hour for independently hosted workshops.
We expect a quick learner to work towards this level within approximately the first 2–3 weeks, subject to demonstrating readiness.
Your development does not stop once you can run a workshop. From there, you will have the opportunity to deepen your fragrance knowledge and take on greater creative and operational responsibility.
Duties & ResponsibilitiesWorkshop Hosting & Guest Experience
- Welcome guests warmly and introduce them to the Scentâme perfume-making experience with enthusiasm and clarity.
- Lead interactive perfume-blending sessions, providing clear step-by-step guidance.
- Confidently manage both intimate workshops and large group bookings.
- Command the attention of a room while maintaining a relaxed, lively and welcoming atmosphere.
- Encourage guests to explore their scent preferences and feel confident experimenting with fragrance.
- Answer questions confidently within your level of training and know when to seek further guidance.
- Adapt your hosting style to different personalities, ages and group dynamics.
- Manage workshop timings, ensuring sessions start and finish appropriately without making the experience feel rushed.
- Handle unexpected situations calmly and professionally.
- Maintain a consistently high standard of guest experience throughout each workshop.
Workshop Preparation & Operations
You will be expected to take ownership of workshop readiness rather than simply arriving to host.
This includes:
- Checking upcoming bookings and understanding the requirements of each workshop in advance.
- Ensuring all required fragrance materials, bottles, equipment, packaging, stationery and consumables are available & communicate to ensure all materials are available
- Setting up the workshop space before guests arrive.
- Ensuring materials and equipment are presented neatly and consistently.
- Monitoring fragrance and workshop stock levels.
- Identifying low stock before it affects an upcoming workshop.
- Replenishing and preparing materials as required.
- Maintaining organised fragrance materials, workshop supplies and retail displays.
- Cleaning down thoroughly after workshops.
- Resetting the space and ensuring it is ready for the next session.
- Flagging operational issues early and suggesting practical improvements.
Customer Service & Sales
As one of the people representing Scentâme directly to our guests, you will also help customers discover more of what we offer.
You may be expected to:
- Introduce guests to relevant Scentâme products and services.
- Recommend fragrances and products based on guest preferences.
- Confidently explain our different perfume and workshop offerings.
- Upsell relevant products or additional services in a natural, guest-focused way.
- Handle workshop and booking enquiries professionally, including occasional telephone enquiries.
- Support merchandising and maintain attractive, organised product displays.
Content & Social Media
There may also be opportunities to support Scentâme’s social presence by:
- Capturing appropriate workshop content.
- Helping create engaging behind-the-scenes content.
- Sharing ideas for showcasing our workshops and fragrance experience.
- Supporting the promotion of upcoming workshops and events.
Previous social media experience is useful but is not essential for the role.
Curiosity & Fragrance Knowledge
Curiosity is extremely important to us.
We are not looking for someone who simply memorises a workshop script.
We want someone who becomes genuinely interested in the materials they work with and wants to understand why things smell the way they do.
You will gradually learn the fragrance materials within the Scentâme collection and develop your ability to recognise, describe and work with them.
An existing chemistry or science background is not required, but an interest in molecules, chemistry and the science behind scent will significantly support your progression.
Over time, you will have the opportunity to develop your understanding of:
- Natural fragrance materials and aroma chemicals.
- The molecules responsible for different scent characteristics.
- Fragrance families.
- Perfume structure and balance.
- How fragrance materials interact.
- Diffusion, longevity and performance.
- Building and modifying accords.
- Fragrance formulation.
- Developing complete perfumes.
We particularly value someone who naturally asks “why?”, experiments thoughtfully and wants to understand the reasoning behind what they are learning.

- Someone who enjoys learning independently and actively seeks knowledge rather than needing everything to be taught step-by-step.
Experience
Previous experience in hospitality, events, workshops, teaching, presenting, luxury retail, beauty, fragrance or customer service would be beneficial but is not essential.
Experience or education involving chemistry or another science-related field would also be advantageous for someone interested in progressing further into fragrance development, but it is not a requirement.
Additional languages are welcome and may be useful when hosting international guests, but are not essential.
More important than a particular background is the combination of confidence, intelligence, curiosity, reliability and the ability to learn quickly.
Your First Few Weeks
We want the person joining us to become operational relatively quickly.
Week 1: Learn the workshop structure, guest journey, setup and clean-down procedures, core materials and Scentâme hosting style.
Week 2: Assist with workshops, begin independently delivering sections and demonstrate that you can correctly prepare a workshop without close supervision.
Weeks 2–3: Progress towards independently preparing, hosting and closing down a complete standard workshop, subject to demonstrating readiness.
We do not expect you to become a perfumer in three weeks. We do expect you to learn how to deliver an excellent Scentâme workshop quickly.
Your fragrance education and creative development will continue throughout the role.
Probation Period
The role includes a 3-month probation period.
During probation, we will assess:

- Workshop preparation and organisation.
- Stock awareness and workshop readiness.

Independent workshop hosting is expected considerably earlier than the end of the probation period.

Pay: £20.00 per hour
