Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated part time Retail Assistant to join our team at The Stock Shop in the Peterborough City Hospital, Bretton Gate. This role is for a fixed term period, initially for 3 months.
In this role, you will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service, managing sales transactions, and maintaining an inviting store environment. The ideal candidate will be proactive, personable, and capable of supporting various retail functions to ensure a seamless shopping experience for our customers.
Duties
- Assist customers with product selection, offering product demos and upselling where appropriate to enhance sales opportunities
- Operate the Point of Sale (POS) system accurately for transactions including cash handling and credit card processing
- Stock shelves, organize merchandise, and ensure the store remains clean and inviting through effective merchandising and stocking practices
- Provide friendly phone etiquette when responding to inquiries and assisting customers remotely
- Conduct product demonstrations to highlight features and benefits of new or featured items
- Support supervising staff with daily operations.
Experience
- Previous retail sales experience involving customer interaction and product knowledge
- Familiarity with POS systems and basic retail math principles
- Excellent communication skills are highly desirable.
- Experience in merchandising, stocking, and conducting product demos will be beneficial
- Knowledge of phone etiquette and upselling techniques enhances customer engagement skills

Working hours – 17.25 hours per week (Sunday, Monday and Friday), plus weekend work on a rotational basis of 1 in 4 Saturday’s.
